I read over airgun nation and some guys say don't use hydraulic aw iso 46 cause it damage the compressor and is not for hpa. They recommend this purple royal compressor oil which is like $20 for only 1 quart. Hydraulic oil 46 you can get 2 gal for that price. I got the 5 gal bucket for $35. When I bought my compressor, people said to use hydraulic oil #46. And that is what the sellers recommend. I've taken my compressor apart and only thing that makes contact with the oil is the crank and arm. Is hydraulic oil really bad for it? Or am I ok with just using hydraulic oil since still have plenty left.

I use #46 in both of my YH's and in both my standard air compressors.
Never had a problem.

Royal Purple is not a HPA compressor oil either. It is designed for 125 to 200 psi compressors. None of those oils are designed for compressors running hpa.
And real hpa compressor oils are expensive. Cheapest I have found is 19 bucks at PA.
The real stuff is expensive. Bauer for instance can be 50 buck a quart. Coultry from Nuvair a bit less. It's your compressor. Want it to live?
Quality compressors are expensive, and so is up keep. the units you are using are throw away units, so I guess it really doesn't matter. However, remember true HPA compressor oil is NOT Petroleum based. Petroleum based lubes and hpa can be very dangerous!

YH specified AW-46, so that is what I use.

There is no free lunch. The problem with using #46 hydraulic fluid is that it stinks in compressors, literally. Unfortunately, the crummy owners manuals accompanying the chinese compressors are totally inadequate and don't translate well. Just because a some users have gotten away with using it doesn't make it a smart choice. What this says to me is some people are playing compressor Russian Roulette and have gotten away with it SO FAR. That doesn't mean your compressor will. THE MANUAL IS WRONG. Don't use hydraulic fluid, and don't use any motor oil. If you want to give your $200 compressor a decent chance to live and not stink up the air while running, buy a gallon of synthetic high pressure compressor oil. Filtertechs.com sells Seco Lube500 compressor oil for $59 a gallon which will last you a lifetime and is $15 a quart if you do the math.

It doesn't turn black and gum up your piston rings like #46 hydraulic fluid. It is made for high pressure compressors.

I don't claim to be an expert but I've read a lot on these compressors, seems the people who use the hydrolic fluid seem to get a frequent carbon build up on the check valve above their high side piston and seals. I have been using the Husky straight synthetic compressor oil from Home Depot in mine since I got it and it runs very clean and have yet to have any carbon build up. Heat is your enemy here and the Husky oil has a very high flash point and is not very expensive for a small bottle that will almost fill the crank case twice. I know some others that are using the same oil and have not heard of any complaints to date. The Royal purple is also a straight synthetic and has been doing well in the Yong Heng compressors also by multiple users. YMMV, guess with time the truth will come out, just hope I'm on the good side of things.

I also use RP compressor oil in my YH with no problems to speak of.
I've owned my YH about 6 months with 5 hrs so far.
I don't run it past 55 C nor longer than 15 minute intervals. So far I've changed the oil about 4 times.
On visual inspections of my filter(black, smaller than the gold one) I don't see excess oil on the pre white filter or final white filter.
I bleed the low and high side to rid of any moisture and I purge the low & high side before shutting it down. I also let the water pump
run until the compressor temp gets down to below 20 C.
Time will tell all how long the YH will continue working without any problems.
