..or just put them in your car. I guess weather is the one thing that match directors fear most (you people in the East quit laughing about us wimps in CA
). The problem we have had in Sacramento the last several matches has been heat, as match temperatures have been right around 100, with a high of 106. So as we approached our October match I was happy to see the weather was supposed to be in the mid 80's with mild winds. Finally a pleasant day for our shooters.
On Friday evening my phone beeps at me and a little red temperature sign appears at the top of the screen. When I check the warning here is the forecast advisory I saw, "Red Flag Warning for the Central Valley from 11pm Saturday evening through 8pm Sunday evening, low humidity, sustained winds of 10-20mph with gusts to 35mph". Unfortunately the weatherman was spot on in his prediction as we endured the most difficult winds of the year at the match. Halfway through the match most hats had been discarded as it was impossible to keep them on. You had to be careful where you set your score sheet and clipboard as you would quickly end up chasing them around the parking lot. We had some chili after the match and you could tell by looking who was facing up wind while eating. We now know that that the sage old adage "never wet into the wind" also applies to chili as well
So with that backdrop I was happy to see 13 people show up for our Sunday match including 3 first time field target shooters and a couple of people who came out to see what this sport was all about about. While the scores show the difficulty of the conditions, I think everone had a great time as you got a real education about shooting in the wind. Our only saving grace was the wind, for the most part, was a slightly quartering headwind that was constantly varying in speed and direction.
I would like to thank all of the participants who come out early and helped with the course set up and who stayed late to help with the tear down, your help is greatly appreciated. Also a special thanks to our new shooters JackC, MarkW and ReedW who braved the conditions to come out and shoot their first matches. We welcome you and hope to see you again. Also a special thanks to JackC for the great photographs below, clearly a step above the usual Galaxy 3 photos that I remember to take about once every three matches.

Hi Eric,
If you look up about 3 inches from where this thread is listed you will see a pinned thread called
Sacramento 2014 FT / HFT event schedule
which is our schedule for the 2014 calendar year. November will be our last match of the season. The 2015 season will start in March or April of 2015.
If you look down from this post a bit you will see the Match Announcement for the October 12th match. Match announcements are posted on this forum a week to 10 days in advance of each match.
Thanks
Jim in Sacramento
