Nope.
When I bought the R1 in 1984 I do not think there were many tuners around.
The boys and I shot the R1 about 25,000 times before we moved to Fairfield.
Then my hunting partner from work moved into my neighborhood.
He had (has) an FWB124 that he had shot about 100,000 times without a hiccup.
We decided to send our rifles to Beeman to be freshened up a bit.
After, we could not tell any difference.
When I bought the TX200 it was about the same.
I shot it 750 times the first weekend I had it and after about another 10,000 pops, I gave it to Scott for one of his DELRIN spring followers to alleviate the twang, whatever that is.
He touched on the trigger, too.
I consumed donuts and coffee.
I know I did sell a brand new HW55T to a fellow up in Spokane and he told me the first thing he did was tear it apart and clean out all of the factory lube.
To each his own.

The only brand new springer I've ever had I just shot it. Everything in a springer was a mistery to me at the time (early 90's) so all I did was shoot it. It was a diana aniversery m34. Gave it to my son and he lost it when he moved up to Ft Irwin.

We occasionally get people turning up at the local HFT club with brand new springers and, conditioned by posts on Internet forums from fans of particular aftermarket kits or tuners, they usually ask what they 'need to do' to it, and the answer is not what they expect, nor perhaps, want; it is to shoot it. The reason is first that they get to learn the rifle, and to decide what they like and dislike about the shot cycle, which we can then address. Second, by gaining a feel for the shot cycle, they will be able to feel the improvement after any modification. Third, the mainspring gets a chance to reach its settled length.
Personally, if dealing with a rifle with which I was unfamiliar, I would first thoroughly test it, which would not only include measuring the muzzle energy and accuracy with a range of pellets, but also measuring the accelerations, displacements and velocities of the recoil cycle which, after taking the rifle apart and measuring/weighing everything (stroke, transfer port, piston and spring), and doing a number of calculations, would give me a very good idea of what's going on inside the rifle, and how it may be modified to better suit my tastes.

I have a few rifles I have never opened. Other rifles that I tore down right away, to clean out the factory grease when the dieseling had no end in sight and the old lady asked what I was burning in the garage. Others I have torn down to make repairs, modifications, or to do some trigger/sear work.
The only rifle I had with major spring twang is my Winchester 1100. I watched Mysterious Coyote's (Pellets and Pistons on YT) transformation with a soda bottle piston skirt and was convinced I would be doing that. But the twang went away on its own. I guess the spring settled in.

I clean the barrel and look for really obvious assembly faults. Tighten everything up and shoot it. Three to four hundred shots to break the gun in. If it isn’t demonstrating acceptable accuracy by then or if it has exhibited some unpleasant tendency I’ll dig into it. So far I have dissembled, de-burred, lubed, and polished two springers and one gas ram gun. Like Dan I did this with the encouragement and guidance of other members here. And I’ve had limited success. The gas ram gun alone benefited from my ministrations.
It has given me the confidence to tune my own springers though and in the future I’ll be more willing to tear into one by myself.

I have five springers. A diana model 26 that I shot as it was for more than 10 years without any problems. It wasn’t until I bought another diana, a model 34 did I notice how much the 26 had calmed down as far as shot cycle smoothness. After reading up about diy tunes I ordered a kit from Jim macari for the 34 and yes it did instantly get all the harshness of that new springer boing that the 26 had in the beginning but that model 26 was a tack driver from the minute I took it out of the box. So I am of the opinion that if the gun is from a quality manufacturer I just clean the barrel and shoot it. As long as it sights in well I can deal with a little spring boing or whatever you want to call it. I especially don't like the notion of packing up a brand new quality rifle and handing it over to USPS, UPS, DHL, FedEx or whoever. Doesn't seem worth the money or effort for me. If a gun doesn't calm down after a few tins of pellets I would buy a kit for it.
But that’s just MHO.
