Built an really large one.... rope pullied it into the shop rafters when not being used. Lower it down, poke the rifle into one end, other end set to point out the shop to a chronograph and a back stop. A universal "sound tunnel". Just can't walk around with it.Without a shroud or LDC on a powerful PCP...would make a deep "thud". Didn't sound much like a shot even bare-barreled, what sound it did make seemed like a natural sound to expect out of a working shop.Basically "trash", some 1/4" rope, and two pullies (to get it up and back down from the rafters). Chicken wire frame, inside full of egg crate packing foam, outside wrapped in trash picked up "shag" carpet. Worked best shaped into an "oval"...height enough for high mounted scopes, but narrower in width.
One of the funnier threads I have run across. The urban is ridiculously loud? Most ridiculous thing I’ve EVER read online. I’m only being slightly facetious when I say that.
Sometimes I’m just stunned by some people’s want’s vs needs...and stunned by their self delusions and justifications.Got close neighbors, really need quiet, maybe 20-25 yards to shoot….and yet you want a more powerful air gun. Why? What is wandering though your neighborhood that that needs killing? You enjoy adding more down range danger because you secretly hate your neighbors? You think match rifles, even “starter” match rifles, aren’t accurate enough? (Agree that they may not shoot the SAME pellets as the “big boys”, but there are pellets that will work for that range.)Whatever you do to hush up a 20 foot pound PCP is going to make a 5-10 foot pound one quieter. If you expect dual use….home and range or home and hunting….something easily adjusted to really low-n-slow and hunting powerful. Would be best if it had external adjustments that just needed to be reset.Add what you need to it at high power to make it “mouse fart” quiet….turn it down, and it’s “ant fart” quiet.
Not sure what’s wrong with his Urban….suspect something is. Not a fan of the bonded on plastic pickle. DO like LDC’s, but like them easily removable (ideally they’ll just unscrew and leave you a bare-barrel). Prefer LDC’s to shrouds...although shrouds can look “pretty”.Really seeking quiet, see more and more folks adding an LDC to a shroud (might call it an extension). It’s also an admission that the shrouds aren’t quiet enough.Likely because MOST of the actual work of getting the PCP quiet is the part of the shroud ahead of the muzzle, that back tube does some, but not a whole lot. Can blame “us” for that...we like shorter rifles. So they put a shorter than ideal shroud on it. Then we mod it for quiet by adding an extension to the shroud and end up with the length it should have been. Can’t win with air gun nuts….if they had put the long shroud on, air gunners would be cutting it down to make it short and complaining that it got louder.
