Well, the 1" model is out-of-stock; and I would only spend the $$ if I thought it could save my existing scope, or if I can get UTG to let me upgrade... So, still waiting on the warranty folks to find out...In the meantime, the Williams diopter is looking more and more appealing...Jesse
It would seem that I am going to lose another scope-still waiting to hear back from the UTG warranty folks to find out what my options are; as if I can get credit towards an upgraded model instead of a replacement scope/repair then I'm going to opt for a 30mm tube and etched glass reticle... But, if I cannot, (which I probably won't, but figured it can't hurt to ask) then-1-I will have to shelf the replacement, and purchase a whole new scope ($$$)... Or,2-I will have to buy the ZR mount to be able to keep on using the same model scope ($$)... Or,3-Stick with iron sights... Not want I want to do; at all... Or,4-forget springers and join the darkside where they have cookies.... So, if I can just skip to an upgraded scope-then obviously I will-as the cost of the ZR mount will likely be the same as the out-of-pocket cost to upgrade the scope to a better model (wouldn't mind a bit more magnification and an illuminated reticle anyway). But, in reality I'll probably end up with an exchange/repair-and if I mount it it will croak in about ten months. So, it's basically either buy a ZR mount, and use the replacement; or put the money towards the investment of a new scope. I'd go for the ZR mount without blinking, except for one thing-and that's loss of accuracy. I've read that one can expect to lose some precision using that mount; up to and including it being virtually unusable-which is a real deal-breaker for me as I like to shoot at 100 yards and what might be acceptable at 20 or 30 yards will show up bigtime at that distance... Does anyone have real-life experience seeing just how much is lost with the zr mount at such ranges? Thoughts, opinions, and speculation welcome! JesseEdit-maybe I should revisit irons... Be worth a try, and wouldn't cost anything-and could always upgrade to a Williams diopter for a reasonable price if I found them worthwhile...
Over the years I could of bought a wood stocked Avenger with the money I spent on break barrel scopes.
Quote from: Spin on October 12, 2021, 04:42:24 PM Over the years I could of bought a wood stocked Avenger with the money I spent on break barrel scopes. That's the part that makes me choke on the idea of having to buy both a recoil-reducing mount AND a new scope, as by then I'll not be that far off of a good secondhand PCP, $$$-wise... Still waiting to hear back from UTG... I think this decision will likely be made for me-as if I just get my current scope repaired/replaced with the same model; then I'm really not sure about investing in a Dampa mount... but, if I can have the scope upgraded; then I'll probably get a Dampa mount, or a ZR mount-but in the meantime I'll try the irons again and see if just upgraded irons would be sufficient...Jesse
Jesse,You sound like a cheap skate. Are you Scottish by chance? -YPS If you get a PCP, you will need to get a compressor, extra magazines, bi-pods, it never ends. Buy a good springer, get a strong scope, an even stronger mount and be done with it...-Y
What kind of monster springer are you trying to scope. Maybe the gun isn't worth the price of a springer proof scope and mount and maybe your money is better spent on a PCP set up.
Jesse,A whole PCP set-up will cost infinitely more that a well done springer. FWIW-I put a $300 scope on a $200 gun.Buy a better scope!-YPS on your N-tec you will need a strong scope AND a tender mount. On my 340N-tec I have a MTC Cobra scope, no problems.-Y
