SAG Springer Has Angled Transfer Port! But, Why?
«

I discovered my SAG Mantis has an angled transfer port!
It comes out in the center of the compression tube for best performance.
I am always surprised at hidden, high quality features on a budget springer.
I have to wonder, "Why?"
It costs extra money and time to raise quality even a little.
Unless . . .SAG actually WANTS the title of,
"Highest Quality Budget Springer On The Market".
If so, I like their style and the are pointed the right way.

That is interesting, but what is a SAG Mantis?

Lots of springers are like that because the center of the bore is not in line with the center of the compression chamber. My industry Brand Model 62, like a B2 without the barrel latch, is tore down right now is like that.

Jeff,
the Mantis is the SAG Beeman model 10616.
I wrote a mini review titled "The Good, The Bad, The Ugly" here on the China gate.
The Mantis uses the (17 ftlb!) RS2 compression tube, but it has a lighter breech block and a Theoben/Gamo style trigger with a stretched back trigger blade (like the Hatsan Edge, or Stiker air rifles).
The Beeman RS2 models use a larger, heavier breech block, and the very good RS2 trigger.
Both models share the same very good ball bearing lockup, too.

Tim,
Thanks for the good information!
I have read about European springers with diagonal transfer ports, but I never guessed the fine folks at Industry Brand did it, too.
What a nice touch!
My BAM/Xisico b19 air rifles have the transfer port drilled straight through at the face of the compression tube at the 12 o'clock position.
BTW, Do you think the angled TP helps a springer be less 'jumpy' when fired?
