I shimmed my .30 cal Challenger with a couple spring washers. It still cocks and it did increase FPS slightly, but not really enough to make a significant difference. These were the spring washers I bought to tighten the slop in the folding stock of the AEA Backpacker I had.

Yeah, good idea. I wonder if one might be able to get a few sets of springs and washers and create special tunes that way?
If that works, you could potentially make delrin spacers that take up X amount of space, to use with Y set of springs and create Z tune.

Looking at your pics of the hammer and spring, I have to wonder if it might be possible do drill and tap through the back of the gun where the spring sits, and put some sort of tension adjuster in there. Like a plate that the spring sits on that can be moved by turning a screw, that would in turn add or decrease tension on the spring.

when you put the barrel back in, how do you know how far to thread it in? Wishing I had made some marks before taking it apart... I threaded mine back in until the magazine fit with a slight bit of resistance.

Old thread, but I had a member ask me about installing the spring washers, so here's a picture of where they go. Now, I have no idea if AEA is still using the same folding stock assembly on the Backpacker, or if it was changed due to the slop I experienced, so this may no longer apply.
To install, I just removed the 2 pins, slipped 2 spring washers over the stock tube and reassembled it.

Nice fix Paul ..
Thanks Dan! But, apparently AEA has changed the folding stock assembly and it's no longer attached with the 2 pins shown in this picture. So, this fix will only work for the older model Backpacker.
I've not seen the new assembly, so I have no idea how to fix it if it's sloppy.
