Don't want to hijack this post but where can I get a threaded extension that fits the Williams peep sight and aperture to just bring the disc closer to my eye?
Thanks David! Great pics, and what an AWESOME way to mount a sight! I've never seen an adapter like that, but what an ingeniously simple and effective idea.Redfield, Lyman, Parker-Hale and others made sights for match powder-burners designed to screw to a fixed side bar on the gun's receiver like that. I'd LOVE to be able to use some of those classics on grooved airguns!(Per my other dumb question - have you ever tried to get a Parker-Hale eyepiece in that sight? P-H, Redfield, Lyman, and Williams all use a nominal 11/32 x 40 thread, but due to diffs in threading standards they vary; I'm trying to sort what does and doesn't interchange.)Very cool set up on the Palma - thanks again.
Thank you Hector! My question arises after fooling with the Lyman peep sight on my old Remington rimfire. Parker-Hale eyepieces and my "large to small" adapter bushing fit it perfectly. (Note - adapter came from Champions Choice years ago, not certain if it's identical to current examples.)Likewise, both the Lyman eyepiece, and adapter, fit perfectly on P-H sights. But two odd things: 1) Neither Lyman nor P-H eyepieces fit my Williams sights, the threaded shafts seeming too large in diameter. But the adapter does fits Williams - and rather loosely to boot. 2) Williams eyepieces fit Lyman...but not P-H. Plainly, there are technical details at work I don't fully understand! So I wondered how Redfield fits in; seems I have read that P-H stuff works in them (their "Palma" with the Euro thread is an exception, most Redfields use 11/32 x 40). But I've never tried it out.Or to put it another way...for years I've thought that P-H was the "odd man out" amongst these four, but now I wonder if it's Williams?
I thought Redfield's threads were 7/32x40, same as Williams?
Mike, may I pm you? I have questions concerning diopter/aperture sights. Especially Ebay offerings of Anshutze sights (Bulgaria/Croatia sellers).
Bingo Kurt, an HW50s is my current interest. I want a vintage Anshutze for it that will accomodate the safety. My interest in diopter sights is more than just the HW50 however. I am 67 and had cataract surgery in May. Corrected for far vision and astigmatism. I now have 2020 and can use open sights. The surgery was a game changer and I can potentially shoot as well with irons as I can a scope. Nothing would please me more than dump most of my scopes and convert to diopter/aperture. Problem is I don't know what vintage diopter fits what gun. I know the Weihrauch diopter gets in the way of the safety of the newer guns. Many if not most Walther diopters don't play with HW and so on.The Ebay Bulgaria listings and Croatia listings often use the same exact photos when listing a sight (different sellers - different listings - exact same photo?). Also, the Bulgaria seller will use exactly the same photo in his store for different listings. It confuses me. Yet both sellers have excellent ratings.
