Clear inserts for a Weihrauch front sight are pretty much non-existent. I've managed to make a few clear and yellow inserts for some of my other rifles, and I actually have some clear and yellow discs that were laser cut for the Weihrauch. Problem is that I just haven't had the time to drill them out. I have a few people on my list who want some when/if I ever get to it. Let me know if you're interested. It will be a bit of an ordeal however, as I want to make them with several different hole sizes and ring thicknesses, so I have to devote probably an entire weekend to the project, and I have so much going on right now with house remodeling and such, I have no idea when I will be able to get to it.As I said, if you want to get on my list, let me know, but no promises as when I can get them done.
While I fully agree with Hector that we have well and truly beaten this thread to death (!), I need to correct an error in one of my earlier posts above. The current Gehmann basic adjustable iris is their model 510. You CANNOT easily mount additional accessories to this unit, as the front threaded stud is not removable. You have to use a rather clumsy extended adapter.Apparently Gehmann prefers for you to pony up for a pricier iris with color filters and/or polarizer, if you want to be able to easily add and remove a lens module.
Gee Hector, I sure hope they are made from recycled plastic. -Y
I didn't explain the reason for my post very well.A friend owns the basic model 510 iris:https://gehmann.com/english/products.php?id=132&kategorie=20He bought the model 50309 1.5x lens module...https://gehmann.com/english/products.php?id=1225&kategorie=20...with the idea that he could add it to the 510, and create an equivalent to the model 530 (i.e., iris + lens, no color filters or polarizer, etc):https://gehmann.com/english/products.php?id=144&kategorie=20With the more complex Gehmann units, the lens module can be removed and replaced with a simple adapter piece. Useful if you are competing in a match where magnification is not allowed, etc:https://gehmann.com/english/products.php?id=177&kategorie=20But this option is not available for the basic 510. Which seems odd.
David, I got some older eyeballs myself and I agree! I use aperture sights on a lot of rifles. When I'm sighting in off a rest I like using an aperture front, but for plinking and field use I'll replace it with a post sight. Those classic German tapered posts with a bead on top are my faves. As you noted, one secret to using a front aperture, even for formal target shooting, is to not go for one that's too small. It can make you crazy, LOL. I'd love to see how you fit the Redfield sight to the Diana! And here's an off-the-wall question for ya: does that sight take Parker-Hale eyepieces?
