Here’s the question . What is the preferred rear sight distance / what should the sight picture be when using this set up?
As stated, it's what works for you. I have an adjustable aperture and set the opening as small as possible while still allowing enough light through to see. For my eyes indoors at home, this is what a 10m air rifle target looks like.[/quoteCool picture! -Y
And that requires a specific distance between rear peep and front sight. As well as an iris to correct the sharpness. So, try different positions and determine what works for you. One thing is important: You should NOT be aware of needing to center the eye into the rear peep, if you need to do that, then change the cheek riser/stock as needed. You should just need to look THROUGH the rear peep to be centered into the front aperture or post.HTHHM
Hector! I'm quite surprised to see that you're using that AOS fresnel lense! I played with one of those a couple years ago and sort of gave up on it. I just couldn't find a proper use for it. I tried it on one of my Williams FP/AG sights and it was just too fragile for my use. However I did have a Gehmann 530 hanging off the back of it, LOL!And speaking of Gehmann sights as Mike Driskill mentioned, and if you can afford it, I would go with the Gehmann model 530. It has the adjustable aperture (hole size) as does the Gehmann model 510, but it also has a +/- 4.5 focus ability and a 1.5x power. I've found this combo to be the most useful sight for me among all that I've tried, and that includes the Merit and Seibert adjustables. According to the Champ Choice website, the model 530 is ISSF compliant.Of course, depending on which base mount you use, you may or may not need an adapter. The above pic is on an HW30 with a Williams FP/AG rear sight.Denis, you didn't spec which rifle you're using but you did mention a Weihrauch front sight, so I'm assuming you are using a Weihrauch rear sight base, in which case a Gehamnn model sight would be a direct plug and play.I put a Gehmann 530 on my 1971 HW35L and it is absolutely my most accurate rifle.HTH
Yep I tried them too. No shipping to Canada
