Title: TriState Shoot?
Post by: Mebits on February 12, 2013, 10:22:22 AM
I'm sniffing around looking for folks near the I-275 loop. We've got a little interested in Indiana and a tad in NKy so far. So, now bugging the Ohio folk.

My thinking is that in our area, neither Ky nor Indiana has enough shooters to reliable make for a single state local shoot, BUT, that if you combine the Tri-state we might. I've found one nice fellow on the east side who has space too shoot but I'm also still looking for a central location. I'm also looking for a centralized INDOOR location, which would make for a heck of an improvement over freezing bottoms off.

Of course, If I can't find more than a couple people, it's hardly worth too much finagling. So, I'm putting out feelers. Anybody interested in doing some manner of tri-state shoot?

I may have found a location not far off of 275 in KY near the river, with refreshments. :)

a tristate shoot would be alot of fun!

we have done 4-5 southeast ohio shoots and they have always been a great time and I know Greg how is in southern ohio has offered up his property for shoots and general hanging out http://www.gatewaytoairguns.org/GTA/index.php?topic=33273.0 (http://www.gatewaytoairguns.org/GTA/index.php?topic=33273.0)

so that might be another option to look into as well for you guys(though it may be a bit of a trip for the indy boys(then again I would be coming from east of dayton so a bit of a trip for me too :) )

I know I have been wanting to talk to Greg about doing a big all weekend shoot like the S.C. shoot Gene puts on every year...

OK, I'm going out the the proposed location on Friday to get the lay of the land and see what he's up for. This could be a regular thing, as well. I'll advise! So far, it looks like he's about 15 minutes from Cincinnati, he has air and CO2, refreshments and space.

I'm very hopeful!

I'll provide a full report shortly.

nice work, Mebits. I understand you need to flesh it out, but where is this place? I know it would be a haul for Mike, and maybe others. It's a matter of knowing how much of a haul. I drive 38 miles to the Middletown Sportsmans Club, but that's not much of a haul for me. You location is probably a shorter distance for me (but maybe not). Can you give us a clue? What will we do when we get there? We'll shoot our airguns! ;D

This is a largish property just a couple miles east and north of NKY. 3miles to I-275. Maybe 12 minutes to Cincinnati, Newport, Covington, maybe 15 to Florence, and 12 minutes to Beechmont. The guy is going to need guidance and he has lots of irons in the fire, so I'm going to want to get a really good plan before we do anything big.

That said, I might try to get a smallish group together for a very casual "dry run" some Sunday afternoon just to let him know we have some peeps AND to give us enough time to look at all our options and figure out what will work best for a bigger thing.

Longer term, I'm thinking that some weekend or maybe a Friday evening that doesn't conflict with his primary business, we can do a Modified "Hunting Field Target" outing.

I think he can keep his commissary open for that and he can keep adult beverages chilled for after, if we think that's a good idea.

BTW, I'm only being dodgy about the location because I'm still trying to organize and I don't know if this guys wants his name out there. Better safe than sorry, I say. Later on, I'll be giving him all the publicity I can. :)

If I do a casual dry run, I'll put the word out here.

Mark,
Thank you for the info. Much appreciated, and no problem with needing to be "dodgy". It's understandable in light of your concerns. Keep us posted as you can.
good luck!

Hey guys! A shoot is ON!!!

7/28: Unofficial Field Target Event! (Northern KY)

We are very pleased to announce that we will hold a beginner/novice-friendly unofficial field target competition for air rifle/pellet gun enthusiasts. The event will take place through the morning and afternoon of July 28th, and it will challenge your marksman skills and provide a day of fun, marksmanship, competition, and camaraderie with fellow shooters.

If you're and airgunner not hip to the sport of field target but have interest just shoot us a reply, We'll be happy to direct you to the best source of Field Target info available. Youtube also offers a good many videos of this fun and competitive event as well, if you'd like a gander at it in action.

Target distances can reach as far as 50 yards, so adult airguns are recommended (but not required). Target sizes can and will present a challenge, as they may range in size from 1/2 inch to 3 inches. So get your practice in now! :)

A traditional spring powered adult pellet rifle will likely do the job if you can shoot it well and stretch the distance in your scope, however the event is also open to CO2 and pre-charged pneumatic (PCP) guns of all levels. Only calibers .177, .20 and .22 are allowed for this event, NOTHING LARGER! Also ONLY pellets may be fired, NO BB's! So pull that backyard plinker off the shelf and come stretch it out, you may be surprised what they can do!

There will be a designated spectator area for a reasonable number of non shooting attendees as well as other amenities.

Shooters will need to bring their own ammo and some form of safety eye wear is A MUST. Safety is of paramount concern and will be taken VERY seriously at this event. Everyone attending will be required to follow the safety guidelines and rules laid out by the venue staff and event organizers. Those failing to comply with proper safety precautions will be asked to kindly leave the premises immediately.

The shooters entry fee will be just $15 and anyone requiring air or CO2 fills for their gun can get them unlimited for just an additional $5. Guest attend for free. There will be a concession area with plenty of food and drink available as well restrooms and shelter.

More details are still in development, location and start times for the event can be had by replying directly to this ad with any questions or concerns.

Preregistration helps to guarantee a slot in the event, so RSVP ASAP as there are only roughly 30 shooters slots available for this first time event. This event will be a LOT of good fun! Trust us, airguns aren't just for kids anymore!
