Title: Beeman Aperture Sight Creep on Springer
Post by: Artie on October 13, 2021, 04:58:09 PM
My Williams FP-AG-TK Aperture Sight (Beeman badged) is creeping on my HW50s. The safety has stopped it from moving any further but that of course, is a problem in itself. The sight has no provision for a stop pin and even if there was, the receiver's two scope stop holes are really too far forward for the sight anyway. What to do?
PA offers the Sportsmatch scope stop shown below but it could not be used with a stop pin without pushing the aperture sight nearly three inches forward of the end of the receiver. Also, the top of the scope stop may interfere with the aperture and that will require milling the top for clearance.
I have some Vibra-tite VC on hand. Has anyone tried this on the scope rail dovetail grooves to prevent scope/sight walk?
Any tried and true recommendations will certainly be welcome.

This doesn't answer your question, but on my 77, I just let the safety stop the sight.  Which also prevented the safety from automatically engaging.  I liked it.  I find auto safeties annoying.

I chose to use the Vibra VC3 and give her a test run tomorrow.
I cleaned the receiver rail grooves and sight grooves with acetone. I then applied the VC3 to the sight dovetails only. I did not Vibra-tite the two tiny set screws that adjust the sights dovetail. Too easy to strip the .05 allen heads on those dudes. I also did not Vibra the flathead position lock screw that is also a PIA. The three screws must be adjusted sequentially and together all at once. Whoever came up with the big bang theory likely invented this sight. But I digress...
Anywho, I now concur with the Brits. This style sight is way too fiddly. Hopefully I can soon source a vintage Anshutz that will accomodate both me and the HW safety and I can get on down the trail with this gun.
Mike I am with you on the safety, they are problematic for target shooting but for general sport, a safety in my book is neccesary.

I use these and they don't move and go on with a single screw

Thanks Ron. What is your source? Are those CZ sights?

Heck,. I can't hardly keep this from slipping

See what I resorted to to clamp it down to stop it creeping up the dovetail ..lol

Their Tech sights.

I like the horse peep posts .

I'm thinking I may go this sight route next.

So far this r9 I'm using is pretty darn good open sight and this add on can only make it better..

Air venturi sells the Williams I guess under the here name , but it be nice if they made the base to take a stop pin for air gun use..

I sent 50-60 pellets downrange and the sight hasn't budged with the Vibra-tite VC3 applied to the dovetails. I'm calling it good for now.
Also, I tried out the TruGlo front globe sight that arrived today. It is taller and thicker than the HW lollipop post. I was able to adjust the Beeman aperture to the TruGlo but my tiny bullseye target is obscured. The bullseye dot isn't much bigger than a .22 pellet and 10 meters is pushing it with the TruGlo. It may be fine for plinking and pest control but for paper targets it could be tough. Time will tell...

What one did you get the hw branded or the truglo ?

19 bucks vs, 60 for the hw front truglo I can't see the hw option.  A front and rear hw's is near 1/3 the cost of the darn gun alone ...lol

Richard, if you take the tower off, there is another screw that keeps the movable jaw from getting too sloppy. I was having the same problem, snugged it up and it now stays put on my HW95.
This was also described better in another thread, maybe the “Another peep question”? Or in one of cw308’s threads. I am sure yours is loose.
I have no chems on mine and it is solid.

Kurt, I can't find the thread you are referring to but on my Beeman the screw you mention was tight when I discovered the problem. I may not have had the two tiny allen sets screws adjusted tight enough out of concern for stripping the heads but they are tight now. I ground the end of my .05 allen bit until fitment to the screw head was absolutely snug with no movement.
Incidentally, the screw you mention is one of my dislikes with the sight, having to remove the tower to access it.
Deeco, the new globe is the cheap TruGlo. Recommended by others...

Ya, I been looking them over for somthing.

The factory  blade and posts , well....

Poor focus and clarity unless the sun/ lighting is just right.  Then glair on the finish.

I shoot open sight  90% of the time .

Been nice if hw could of used a better non glair finish and gave a spike post in the insert pack.

Ya the rear has a v notch option but no post to use it with..

I shoot in shade mostly and havn't noticed glare with the factory sights. Actually, I think the Weihrauch oem sights are pretty good, but for me, a teensy truglo front bead with an aperture/diopter rear would be that cat's meow.

Compared to what...lol..

There ok justneed work .  They all need somthing to make them better .

I gu ss to f you shoot a them in full shade there fine.   Here the sun rises and set through out the day so that's ever changing..

I'm going to try a rear sight hood prototype.  When I cup my hand over it at the he bad times it brings the sight focus back a lot and cut that glareing .  Or just smut them with carbon black.   Of the rifles I shoot it got the worse blur and glare . Like I said d they all needed a tad of tlc  most for slop.  Like scoped once it's zeroed you don't want movement and then it's focus and clarity all to the target .

Anyway I may skip that truglo now  I got one that's like looking in to the sun at times so I had to dimm it down some ..lol.

Sorry I was going to add this . It helped a lot .

After I added them and liked the results I was going to wash them off and do it more professional, bit then I got lazy.. just adding the dots at the notch tightened things up.

Kurt, the FP-GR-TK sight has the flat head screw you mentioned earlier exposed in this model. Also, it appears to be a "low" mount, unlike my "Beeman" high mount.
With the screw exposed the tower does not need to be removed to adjust or take the sight completely off the gun. Good option for guns without much droop.

Ya, I been looking to go that way next as I said .  I think I'll like that and scopes been busted on this r9 too frequent ..

I going to shoot mine more as is and see how I feel down the road  and may just pull the trigger on one to slap on it..

Watch for my new thread....  Lol..

Thanks.
