Title: Kenosha, anyone?
Post by: Ole Coyote on April 19, 2017, 07:51:26 AM
Hi Everyone, My name is David, and I am in South Carolina. My nephew came to visit me, and I got him turned on to airguns. He had never fired a gun of any kind, but after a couple hours of shooting, he was hooked. So much so, that when he got home, I sent him a Beeman P17. I have enough rifles, I will be sending him a good, solid, starter rifle this week. I have Daisy 131 that I love. It was my first air rifle, and though I don't shoot it very often anymore, with all it means to me, I can't get enough out of it on sale to make it worthwhile selling, but I will get a lot of pleasure out of giving it to him to start his airgun hobby. What I am trying to find out if there are any events I can point him to that aren't too far from Kenosha, or maybe informal gatherings where he might  find some guys to shoot with. He is 23 and a youth minister in a church near Kenosha. It would be great to have some guys I could point him and maybe his Dad to, to enjoy my favorite sport. Thanks guys!!

There will be a fun shoot in Plainfield, IL this summer, should only be about 2 hours drive from Kenosha.

I second the BAGA recommendation too.

Thanks, guys. I'll check it out and pass it on  to my nephew. He was pretty excited to be shooting, and he is such a natural, it does my heart good to enable him in this  :)

Hello David!  My name is Brian Vandenboom, everyone calls me "Boomer".  I am the Match Director and AAFTA Rep at BAGA and would love to have you come out and join us for some fun.  We are currently indoors at our 30 yard indoor range.  The first weekend in May, we will be moving outdoors.  Outside we have 100 yards in the sight-in range and a full field target course carved out into the woods.  We host 1 field target match per month with special events that pop up all the time just to keep things fun.

normal range times are every Saturday 9:30am to 3:30 pm.  During the summer this may vary based on whom is around and what is going on, but we try to not take up the whole day for RO's so everyone can have fun and RO's can still have a life.  :)

here is the link to our club website.  This will show you the times and dates and any special announcements as well as current events.

Send me an email and I will add you to my email distribution list for all BAGA club events.

Looking forward to meeting you Sir!

Thanks,
Boomer

Tater- PLEASE keep me informed with as much info regarding your Field Target Match.  I will do what I can to push participation for you.  I know we have emailed previously(I think), but here is my email just in case.

Hey Boomer, thanks for the invite. Any chance I'll see you in Kentucky? I would like that. I am not likely to be able to take up your invitation, though, as I am in SC. My nephew, on the other hand..... He came here to visit 3 weeks ago, and at 23, had never fired a gun. I got him started and he took to it like a duck to water. He is a real natural. So much so I sent him a Beeman P17 when he got home to Kenosha. I am packing up my Daisy 131 to send him right now. My twin may add a nicely refinished B4 .22 for his Dad, our brother. He has always liked to shoot, but apparently, WI is not quite as firearm friendly as SC. I think if he can find a place  to shoot, he will really enjoy it. I'll pass on your club info. Thanks.  :)

Thanks Boomer, but I'm not hosting that one, and I think it's more of a casual fun shoot rather than a match. I'm sure some fun competitions will break out though.  ;D   It's GTA member JoeShmoe that is putting it together. If you're not at BAGA that weekend, you should get down there for that one.

@ David -  At BAGA, he will meet some really nice knowledgeable guys. Both there, and the fun shoot I linked, he'll find that most guys would be happy to let him try their guns or give him good advice or tips.

Thanks Tater, Sorry it took so long to get back to you. I just sent my nephew his gun, and my bother's Birthday was Monday, so I sent along a Norica Dragon as birthday wishes for him. I let them both know about BAGA, and will pass on the fun shoot info to both of them. Being in Kenosha, Northern Illinois is not much of a stretch for them  :)
BTW, if you plan to be in Kentucky, I'll look forward to meeting you there!
