Daisy 880 Pump Tube....NEVER seen this B$
« on: August 10, 2022, 03:43:44 PM »
And now, something completely different.......(NO....NOT a man with 3 buttocks....)

I am resealing an older Daisy 881.

After performing the standard ritual, it would not pump up much pressure...some, but not much.
Redid all my work, and changed out the exhaust valve...no help.
I could hear air escaping after a certain point in the pump stroke.
Soooooooooo.....................
I changed out the brass pump tube.
Problem solved..............except.......that was my last pump tube............

I have cleaned it, and allowed ti several cycles in the ultrasonic cleaner....no help.
I believe that it has a scratch in it...........

Dunno.......

You can lead a man to water, but you can't keep him from urinating in it.

Break out the calipers, and measure the tube diameter every 1/4", for the full length. I'll bet the tube is bulged. Only saying this, because,  I had the same problem, once.
Drove me absolutely NUTS.

I saw no deviation in the OD of the tube.
I believe it has a scratch on the ID close to the end of the stroke.........
