I'm a noob to regulators. I have one on my gauntlet 2 that I don't think is working right. Or at all. I've degassed and filled up about 6 times already. It's getting aggravating. My questions are... Since my reg doesn't have dual gauges. Can't I just take out the burst disk on the output side and install another pressure gauge??And to limit air loss instead of buying a doohickey, can't I just fill my tank with some material to take up space to reach the desired pressure quickly??I polished up my hammer and bolt probe and now my numbers are higher and alot less crowded consistant. So I'm sure the reg isn't working but I don't know why.. I out it back the same. I finally think I wrapped my head around the concept of regulators. Still kind of confused on how the piston closes down on the side that the higher pressure air is coming from but I'm guessing it has something to do with the volume in the upper chamber ? My gauntlet only came with 11 washers, can't get it to regulate. But it worked fine before I took it apart. Thanks. Also I'm aiming for it to be regulated at about 2300-2500 instead of 2800 it was factory set. Wether that means I need to buy washers shims or a new reg.
No such thing as a stupid question. Appreciate the warning Mike. But I'm not talking about 1.8k burst disk, and of course I would be mindful of the pressure. IMO 7.5k and even 5k burst disk are pointless if you are carefully filling your gun. Not many things will fill it to 5k anyway. (But I'm all for adding extra safety things) Probly gonna just get dual reading reg. Umerex wants me to send the entire gun back and I'm not doing that. Thanks rich, didn't know they were different thread sizes. but theoretically it would work though right? I don't really see a danger in doing so other than you lose a burst disk but u can see the pressure so...Honestly I figured somebody on here would have tried it already. Because technically it seems like it would work. And I yes I messed something up in the reg. Umerex guy ignored me twice about my question about if I can still fill the gun unregulated to 4500 psi! Right now I only have it filled to 3k. But I hope the pressure tube would be rated for 4500 if the air tank is lol. I will hit up hajimoto about that. Its more powerful unregulated but way louder and less shots. And Mike your right coming here and asking questions has taught me alot already. Hope all the new airgunners come here before tinkering because HPA can be very dangerous.
THANKS Hajimoto for all that info and advice!!! Basically I'm assuming it's not regulating anymore because the shots velocities act like a unregulated gun now and it uses way more air than when It arrived. While polishing the hammer and bolt I was curious and opened the regulator. And when I put it back together it (maybe I dropped something but I doubt it) I dont have the same shot count, it's louder and the velocities are inconsistent. So output pressure IS NOT confirmed. I agree figuring that out is step one! I agree I definitely need to get one of your reg testers as well as a bunch of other stuff I've been checking out on your sight.Gonna attach a couple pics.Right now the only pictures of I have of the washer stack was right before I re-assembled it (the first time, so it should how it came from factory unless I unknowingly changed something) I have since tried different washer orientations, and removed shims but the gun seems to act the same no matter what. Right now the regulator has one less washer because I wanted to see if it would make a change. Also the reg came without a spring and pin/ball valve at the end, but I don't think that's a big deal since it would be forced open at all times anyway. Also haji, since I don't 'believe' my reg is working I was just concerned about the 4500psi pressure unrestricted into the valve tube of the gun that says "2900 max pressure" like if someone wanted to run it unregulated (I don't) could the gun still be filled to 4500 safely?I'll be back tomorrow, just got off work. I'll post more pics and go over your post again with fresh eyes. And this is my first regulator so its hopefully it's something I laugh about later. And Rich the gun has a 5k burst disk and a 7.5k I forget why I mentioned 1.8k. Also I thought maybe the white nylon ball was the culprit so I popped it out and flipped it over for a new surface to seal.

Yes that's good, it looks like the regulator is working. The first shot or two being fast indicates some pressure creep which is not unexpected since you recently flipped the seal on the end of the piston. Keep shooting it and give it some time to break in and it should improve. In the meantime the hammer spring tension is too high. You can back it off a little or just leave it be for the break-in period. Once it's broken in, dial the hammer spring tension to the velocity knee (95 - 97% of maximum velocity) and enjoy!
Did you put the other washer and 2 spacers back in? If not that's what even on the lowest hammer setting it is over sprung. If you put them back in you will "waste" less air, and the velocity string will likely be closer to the first two shots.

I need you to confirm that this is a Umarex Gauntlet 30 caliber.
Ok here's a shot string starting with fill pressureHammer spring backed all the way out to lowest setting 3100-3200 psi (48.6grain vortex pellets)
