I agree with your points about it being an exaggerated concern in many cases. At the same time, I think you know a powderburner example obfuscates an important distinction, which is that cant error is directly proportional to the projectile’s drop. Horizontal error as a result of cant = drop * sin(cant_angle)And since a pellet drops much more quickly than a high velocity centerfire round, it may show as much cant error at 50 yards as the .223 does at 250 yards. Thus it is not an unreasonable thing to seek to minimize.
I never argued that cant shouldn't be minimized.
Personally I think it's comical the optics people put on sub 50 yard air guns and ask a thousand questions about it.
You asserted that scope height didn't matter, when it does.

I just realized what I said. I'm sure neither are shooting springers at that level of competition. Derrr!

Ron,I don’t know by your handle whether or not you are from the SF Bay but, if you are I invite you to Diablo when the springer champs are shooting.CameronKSunLJimPBTW..They shoot at WFTF standards of 12fpe..

I'm from Long Island NY. I don't really claim to be an excellent marksman. I'm no way near the skills of even the local club shooters. I do however have a decent grasp of the technical aspect of optics mounting and ballistics. Shooting and technical skills are not necessarily hand in hand.My comment regarding them not shooting springers was an ignorant assumption that springers and PCPs would be competing together. If that were the case (I might be incorrect) but I'd think the PCPs would pretty much rule the top of the competition. On the other hand, glass is a personal choice. My viewpoint is my own and what fits me. I prefer my rifles light and practical. People can put as much glass as they want on their guns. If someone wants to put a 2 lb 6-24x50 on a 6 lb 12fpe rifle that's up to them. I just don't understand the need.Take careRon
