Hector, Please elaborate. So when is a pellet head size of 4.52 not 4.52(assuming decent QC)?-Y
So JSB "reverse engineers" the head size by how it shoots out of their predetermined barrel sizes?I knew they each had a different inspection methods, but this seem @@@ backwards... -Yps any idea how Air Arms does it, or is it the JSB way?
HectorSlight aside-but the H&N Baracuda Green-non lead tin- shoot noticably "better" more consistently and more "bullseyes" than cheap Daisy non leadand Crosman SSP not lead pellets.I only shoot standing-offhand-no support-but they are better than the other NOT LEAD pellets--about 5-7 cents each $15-$18 per 300 tin in .177- .22 a bit more
HectorThanks for the tips.Wow Sept 2013- 8.5 years ago-your wife was waaaaay ahead of EVERYONE. I haven't bumped into ANY OTHER not lead shooters here or anywhere else.Maybe no-one admits to "it"-H&N must be selling those GREEN pellets to someone other than me and your wife.So the trick it to shoot them fast-well with the Diana 350 .177-I have that covered-Even the FT 5.7 green-DOUBLED-literally stacked(11.4 grains)-leave at 900 fps-and one of them hits the bullseye if I did my part(at 10 meters)-I love that cannon! It is like a "real" rifle looks like one feels like one and is almost as noisy as one!- FUN GUN!What barrel lube do you use? Thanks againCharlieI save my pellets-"someday" I am going to cast them-the Rabbit magnum pellets are practically just cylinders-not a tough mold-maybe I could find a firearm mold for a .223 "likeit" Ron pointed it out that the H&N Tins-the GREEN tins-all say "FOR PCPs RIFLES ONLY " I did notice that on the 25 grain copper plated Lead 25 grains pellets(Rabbit Magnums)- have that caution-but I ignored itbecause I wanted to try them in the 460 .22-they cleared the barrel but did not penetrate "much" into pine- pretty slowNo idea why the very light GREEN H&N have that caution?? "FOR PCP RIFLES ONLY" -I did not even notice it on them-I can see why the 25 grain Rabbit Magnums(lead) have that caution-they would get stuck-the 460 shot it out-but not with much extra judging from penetration. Some kind of lawyer wimp-ism?
I went and bought a tin of .177 cal Baracudas for my 350 Mag. Opening the tin and taking a look took me for a surprise: all the pellets in the tin have a sharp "nipple" on top of the dome, like a cut off casting sprue. WTH?I can't see how pellets with sharp &*%^& on them can shoot with any accuracy. Heavy, quality pellets in .177 cal don't come any cheaper than quality .22 cal pellets: this one set me back 15 e. Pretty expensive fishing weight raw material.
Just a heads up, but H&N contacted me right after the weekend. Mr. Schmidt asked for some pictures and data, which I provided. Things are being taken care of.
Thanks for these pictures. I was not sure about the dimension of the point. But I can tell you that this point is normal and necessary. It has the function to release excessive air from tooling during swaging process. Otherwise the head could have imperfections. The little points have no influence on accuracy. To be sure we test every single batch of pellets and especially these Baracudas twice at 50 meters before packaging. I case of further questions do not hesitate to contact me.
