Went to Mikey D's and bought 3 1/4 pound meals with shakes sub for the sodas. Never again!!!! $54.00 bill and it tasted like...! The shake was good and the frys weren't too bad but the main part just didn't taste that good.
I hadn't eaten at McDonald's in ages, my wife picked up the grandkids (teenagers) and they wanted McDonald's so my wife called and asks if I would like a burger. I said yes....
When she got home with my Quarter pounder I was sooo hungry. First bite, okay... not great ...but with each bite it got worse. Then I remembered why I hadn't been in a while.

Their fries are awesome when they are hot but they go downhill super fast. Cold McDonald's fries are horrible.

Micky D burgers, about once a year a have a couple to remind me how awful they are.   I sure do love the fish sandwiches and yep, the fries are only good when very hot.

Wonder wife and I had Italian last night.   We don't often like to go out on friday or saturday.   Thursday is date night for us.    Anyways, I had chicken saltambuca and it was wonderful, I pretty much licked the plate clean.   My wife had seafood with red sauce and ate about a third of it, leaving the rest for me.    It probably wasn't too smart to eat that much but it went down real easy.

"Mac and Dons Steak House" is not worthy anymore.
I will stop for a Breakfast egg and cheese on a biscuit when traveling... but my beloved 1/4 pounder w/cheese from decades ago has morphed into a train wreck.
The fries... well back in the day they were good, even cold, but now.... pass even if hot.

There is one in the next town over that has a drive through only combined with a gas station...
When paying for fuel you can see them "microwaving" the pre-made burgers.  :-\

Betty Lou made me the best mushroom and cheese omelette for breakfast along with one slice of whole wheat toast.
We are combining lunch and dinner with yellow fin tuna steaks in the air fryer oven and baked sweet potato.
Later we will have a salad with fruit and a fruit smoothie.
We both love seafood and it will become a huge part of our diet. It's all in preparation.
Tomorrow I will begin the day with oatmeal, banana and whole wheat toast.
We've been drinking 100% oj and filtered ice water.
I'm also forcing myself to use my upper dentures so I can eat nuts and other fibers.

My middle sister [the one in Georgia] gave us about 10 pounds of Okra and some tomatoes Thursday.  Today, my Judy and I processed almost all the Okra and tomatoes into Stewed Okra.  Then she took out two portions and added shrimp for our lunch.  I don't remember having that since we moved here.  I almost hurt myself.

I downed some Jack n the box tacos and their new spicy chicken tenders with ranch sauce. Was good but the tenders needed salt. Finished with some sliced cantaloupe back home later.

This post just have me an idea. We just had my oldest's high school graduation party, and I'm thinking for the next kid's grad party, in 2 years, I should set up a deep fried station. Guests would pick out what they want: Oreo, Twinkie, hot dog, chocolate chip cookie dough, churros, funnel cake.

This was so good yesterday, I made it again this morning. Crumbled sausage, eggs, American cheese, fresh tomato slices, and ketchup on toasty, hearty artisan bread.

That’s awesome, an old friend of mine is a deep fryer master. He’s from Louisiana, so that guy can deep fry anything and I’ll try it. Sounds like a good time deep frying at a party!

I rarely deep fry, so I'll have to do a bit of research.......and plenty of trial runs, of course  ;)

Don't forget the Dill pickles, Onion rings, cauliflower, green beans, and "bite size" Snickers... all battered.

Great suggestions, Scott! I could include a tempura batter as well, and add shrimp and chicken to mix.

Drakes is my "go-to" batter mix. A little Lawries seasoning salt mixed in.

Oh.... and button mushrooms. ;)

Friday menu pike, perch, cod, shrimp, and in season smelt.

I haven't had a good old fashioned smelt fry in decades

Around here Smelt can be caught in nets during the spring run, It was tradition to load up on beer and hit the shores and stream banks and hope to get your limit, both beer and Smelt :) Any left over beer went into the batter.
