FT Harness and Bum Bag: homemade and new

(1/2) > >>

rixtrix1:
I just got a pm from another member, Sharpshooter (Darren), who requested info on how I made my own FT harness. I found some pics of it and the bumbag I made on Photobucket from my old laptop and I'll try to post them up. For anyone wanting to get a commercial looking harness and/or bumbag, the wife of one of our clubmembers( Airgunners of Arizona) has made a couple and MAY want to make  one for someone outside our club. Our club secretary, Mark Kauffman, has the contact info. You can get hold of Mark  here or on the Green FT forum under login "MarkinAZ" if I'm not mistaken.

Pics, hopefully. Bumbag and harness are made from golf bag material , 1-1/2" webbing, 1"webbing, pinch type connectors (like on a fanny pack strap} that I got for next to nothing from an upholstery goods closeout store in Tempe AZ. The backstrap pad is made from 1/2" closed cell foam 5" wide covered in the above mentioned material. More modern designs have the pad made about 10"x 18" with 2" wide strapping and connectors. I just used what I figured my wife's home sewing machine would handle. The bumbag has a velcro'd opening that I filled with beanbag filler styrofoam beads( cheap) . Buckwheat hulls  and other things can be use for fill and are available on the 'net. but a $4 beanbag chair has provided enough material to keep the bag filled to regulation height of 6" for almost 10 years and yes, the beads do compress over time. I just keep adding more and it only weighs 2# and is easy to carry via a sewn-on strap handle of the same material.

Thanks Rick

You're welcome, Darren! My mother has cousin's living in Lodi. I was there last in 1957. I'll bet it's nothing the same now. Same for Salinas, where Mom's Brother live since shortly after WWll until retiring to NAPA upon retirement and now a VA facility near  Sac.  I love the mountains nearby, much nicer than here in AZ.

Hey Rick,

You did a good job when you made them way back when.  Also looks like Trudy took some good pictures, but you need to get some sun on those legs.

FWIW, I am also using MarkinAZ on this forum as well.  I can always check to see if Klaudia is interested in making more of them.
