Title: Any Shooting Events In Washington?
Post by: joel w on September 03, 2013, 01:06:17 AM
I see this area is empty still.   ???  No shooting events in this state?  Any local (Snohomish County) interest in here for one?

We have a chunk of property and no close neighbors.  Currently I have a 51yd and a 106yd range set up and was thinking about making some field targets for the yard.   We are pretty far out near Whitehorse Mountain. (near Darrington) but it's a nice scenic drive.

Let me know if any of you are interested.  Maybe we could put something together..

Very good layout for setting up a shoot Joel!  I know exactly where you are, but now I live about 3,000mi away, so it's a long way from the Everett ferry now ;)   There' members that are not far from the I-5 corridor area, and also over on the OP;  so I'd bet if you announce one, you'll get some interest.

I would be interested.  I live in Seattle and I'm fairly new to airgunning and would like to help and learn more.

Yes,  this sounds good to me.  Need to run some of this past the wife but she is easy going so no worries here. :D  Glad there is some interest.

I am waiting on a few parts to come in so I can put this .22 together and get it running good.  In the mean time, I can try and put some targets together and work on the yard a bit (tall field grass).. I am very new to FT and pcp's so I only have a hand pump.   I have looked at some of the targets used and think I can come up with a few.  Time to study up on FT.  ;)

Hey guys, I am from seattle and new to the airgun community. I was wondering are there any 10m rifle matches happening in our area ? I did a quick google and didn't find anything.

The kenmore range up north has seasonal airgun league that takes place only in the month of April :(

There is a group that shoots benchrest and field target down around Tacoma, don't know how far that is from you folks.  Here's the url;

I know some of them, nice people.

 Hi all!

I currently live in Everett and drive to Oso to shoot at a friends property with a sweet set-up for airguns and plenty of room for company. And yes it's a scenic drive indeed! I will present him with with this idea before I go further.

I am interested in meeting other enthusiasts and the exchange of information that results. I can offer many steel targets, laser range finder, air and chrony to to the mix for others to use and am willing to help in any effort help to learn from others and to improve locations.

I know it's been half a year since the OP but it's worth doing! An open ended informal meet and greet would be a great start to organize something more.

I hope your friends in Oso are ok. We are alive!   We are 2 miles east (upstream) of this landslide and it is a disaster like I have not seen before except May 18th, 1980.   So sad, so few survivors... :'(

My prayers to your neighbors Joel.  I was there for the Mt St Helens incident, and ole' Harry is never forgotten.  It is truly a shame for a small group of folks.

Thank you Sir!  I drove through the slide area about an hour before it let loose, so I feel very lucky.  With 17 dead, 90 still missing and 45 homes just gone, it is very devastating for this small area.  We may still have to evacuate our house if the river starts backing up much further and with more rain in the forecast, it's not looking good.  No telling when the road will open and it's a 200 mile (4hr) round trip to work now through Rockport.  Life goes on...

Joel hope you are OK
I would be interested in an informal shoot and greet, airguns not allowed in my neighborhood  :(

Thanks, we are doing ok here.  We are 80ft in elevation upstream (3 miles) from the slide so not in any danger of flooding.  Unfortunately, hwy 530 probably will not be open up until September (WSDOT's best guess) and the only real way around is hwy 20 (100 extra miles each way) for now.  It sounds like the search for the last 2 people missing is coming to an end soon.  Then they can work on finding the road more effectively.

My friend's ok as his property is a mile below the slide site and still has easy access. A few hours after the slide (while the river was still blocked) evacuation was recommended and I did so. Luckily the river cut through sooner rather than later or it could have been worse.

We had the range set up on the upper field 200 yards away from the house so his 14 year old dog wouldn't get too excited by the activity. Heck, archery would set her off! She liked it all a bit too much and would wear herself out in her enthusiasm. She has past now and the 100 yard range is now set up off the back porch which is a bit too tight for a gathering.

We are looking to build a site on the lower field in a very beautiful and natural setting away from the house that is much more suitable and I hope to complete it in a month or two. Then permission will be granted for invitations! Gotta get busy...

Looking forward to meeting other enthusiasts in the area :)

This is where I've been shooting.  It has a small parking lot and some large boulders that I use as bench rests.  I tried to post a photo, but it was just too much of a hassle.  File is too big, can't link to external file, etc.

Kitsap Rifle and Revolver club.  I believe it's still open, I've heard of some drama out there the last few years - I've never visited there, I'm much closer to the Poulsbo range. Been meaning to take my WindyCity there to try it out at some longer distances, I can only get about 50yds at home right now.  Need to clear some brush for a bigger shooting lane.

**Copied from my post at AirGunNation.com**  I thought this group might find this information useful.  As best I can tell, the state laws don't apply to airguns at all, though an argument could be made that pistols are covered.

************
I also looked into the regulations regarding discharging an airpowered gun within the city limits of Yakima.  It’s…confusing to say the least.  I asked the YPD to clarify and they submitted all the information, but I think that the laws are just vague regarding airpowered weapons.

The Cliff’s Notes version is: to be absolutely legal, go to a legal shooting range within city limits or shoot outside the city.  It’s probably ok to shoot an airgun within city limits on private property, but the laws are vague about how they apply to airguns.

RCW 9.41 covers the firearm regulations for Washington, but nowhere does it mention air powered weapons.  It very specifically states ‘firearm’ and the definitions for the RCW clearly defines firearm as:(9) “Firearm” means a weapon or device from which a projectile or projectiles may be fired by an explosive such as gunpowder.(10) “Gun” has the same meaning as firearm.
If you’re a physicist, or engineer, you might say, “compressed air certainly could be explosive” and I’d agree, but then later in the code it says:

(19) “Rifle” means a weapon designed or redesigned, made or remade, and intended to be fired from the shoulder and designed or redesigned, made or remade, and intended to use the energy of the explosive in a fixed metallic cartridge to fire only a single projectile through a rifled bore for each single pull of the trigger.

That statement pretty definitively eliminates air rifles I’m not sure if pistols would still be included though.  The definition of pistol is even more vague.

The city of Yakima however has a separate code that states:

“…Willfully discharges any firearm, air gun, or other weapon, or throws any deadly missile in a public place, or in any place where any person might be endangered thereby. A public place shall not include any location at which firearms are authorized to be lawfully discharged…”

This would seem to me, to indicate that airpowered guns are legal to discharge, so long as it is being done responsibly, not in a threatening manner, and not on public property.

Yea pretty much..

Feds have a law that states Airguns are not firearms, but any state , or muni can have their own ordnance governing rules on AG.. For instance Tacoma, WA has an ordnance that NO BB gun, AG, air soft, archery, sling shot, etc can be fired in city limits without a permit from the city..

"Fire"  "Explosion" etc.  are all the "Difference"  between air power and "fire" power.  Hold to that Brothers.

Yeah...  Since it has become more populated now...there has been some scardy cats that bought land, and built houses...and are now "Surprised" That THEY BOUGHT homesites near an established GUN Range @@@@
Shame on THEM and shame on the REALTORS,...if they didn't let this be known to the buyer!  I feel sure that the REALTORS did....  No sympathy here, for the homeowners.
Back in the 70s it was a smaller range... but for small caliber stuff (and local driving distance)...it is a great venue!
Let me know.  I have a personal like for the place :D

It's part of the Oak Creek wildlife reserve, supposed to be closed to the public during the spring but as long ad you're not actually hiking they don't seem to mind hunters sighting in here.

This thread seems to get resurrected periodically, so I thought I'd do my part.

I'm in Snohomish county and I'm new to "serious" airguns. Definitely looking for places to shoot with >20yd ranges, as well as meetups to learn about tuning.

Is anyone around?

Thanks!

If you ever make it over the mountains feel free to look me up.  I've been shooting at a couple different areas around Yakima.  There's an indoor range that's about 25yards and some wide open spaces that are much longer distances.  You could probably stretch my favorite place out to about 150yards.  There's also Sun Valley Shooting Park.  I've been trying to document places to shoot on this map:
