I did some testing of the 83 gr. NOE Hollowpoint yesterday, and shot this target....

Bob Sterne
Custom BRod, TJ's 26" twist .357 cal barrel
Leapers 3-9 x 32 AO scope
NOE 83 gr. Hollowpoint, sized to 0.357" at 888 fps
Bench, shooting off a block of wood
47/50 3X, and 1.63" C-T-C
Gusting, swirling wind 2-7 mph from 8-10 o-clock

I know it's not good enough, but other than that flier on the 3rd shot (could be me, or the wind, or both) I was pretty pleased with it....  8)

Incidently, this bullet turns Ground Squirrels inside out with authority....   ::)

Jeesh, now you have really rubbed it in. LOL   Would love to see what you could do with a high mag scope zeroed at 100!

Pretty nice Bob.  I can’t even imagine focusing at only 9X at 100 yards! That’s a nice score with any scope but doing it with a 3X9 makes it that much better.

The slugs are quite interesting looking and have very unique shapes, unlike the FX Hybrids or NSA slugs I have been trying with the Safari .25.  Curious - why do you shoot off blocks vs. Bi-pod or front bag?

Pretty simple.... I forgot my BiPod and bags....  ::) .... it wasn't designed to improve my chances....  ;D

Shooting Date: 06/08/20
Shooter: Tom Boylan
Distance: Outdoor range; 100 yards lazer'd
Gun: Daystate RW Safari .25
Optics: Sightron 10-50X60 MM; 2FP
Ammo: NSA 33g slugs
Wind: SE @ 4 mph
50/50; 2X
Group:1.22" CTC
Position: Bench Rest seated; Rear Bag and Accu-Tac Bipod

Showing four NUAH targets, but only the one referenced at the bottom ( one with calipers and one without ) is the one submitted for July.

The gun is shooting well, but on the AGN EBR Target challenge which recently began ( which is quite difficult for me); I am struggling with 205-210 averages.  I did shoot a few (not shown here ) that were 212, 213 and 217 but my average is in the 205-210 range for about 50 or 60 EBR cards that I have shot so far.   Hats off to those EBR 100 yard shooters that can score in the 220-235 range!!

Good luck guys and good shooting wishes for you all!

Thanks Jimmy...

Funny, how I’ve been trying to repeat this the last several times out but to no avail.  Not complaining at all, but just acknowledging the ability to repeat is always challenging and unpredictable.

Great job Thomas!

I've often thought that a "rule" I'd like to add to NUAH rank qualifications would be a validation clause.  If you shoot a target that qualifies for an advancement you don't OFFICIALLY get the promotion until you validate the first time by doing it again.

Thanks Blue.

Actually, you have a good idea and to take it a step further...

Maybe to keep your rating you have to re-qualify with an equivalent target by “X” date; which equals your designation or current rating.  I.e., score a new target equal to your current rating by a certain date to maintain your rating/status.  If you don’t qualify, you loose your rating or get bumped down a level.

I’m not sure if these ideas would exceed the original intent of NUAH target challenge, but it would keep it interesting.  It would take a little bit of the “luck” out of the equation of shooting a magic target and permanently keeping a high rating.

This is a casual BR challenge, so maybe this would defeat the purpose and original design point.

I’m perfectly happy the way it is too.

IMO the matches offer the ability to prove your worth on a continual basis.... I think the  rating system is just fine the way it is.... A lot of people don't have the ability to shoot at long range all the time to "stay current" if that were a rule.... I know that the targets I have a chance to shoot (rarely) in a match just confirm I am in the correct division....

Understand access to 100 yard range and time issues.  Also, “requalifying” to maintain your rating might be a disincentive to participate.  It’s a casual challenge and like I said in my last sentence, happy to leave “as is.”

I hope a lot that I scored correctly and this is an OK time to submit?

Wind mostly from behind and the left. I should have gone at 5:30am and there would be no wind. The landowner, a filbert orchard and airport, thought I was shooting GS and I eventually did after I shot my 100 and 30 yard targets.

I like it!!!!

Not sure what it means to be a NUAH club member? Do you just have to ask or ask and shoot well?

Re: NUAH club membership...
Go into the club gate and read through the submission requirements, I want to say there are a few we don't include in the matches like a pic of the target on the range, a ruler across the target showing ring size, etc. You just have to post your submission there. Use the same target you shot for this match just add the extra pictures with it in that post.

Cool. I'll go take a look at that gate.

I like lobbing 'em in and I can shoot past 100 yards.

Blue - nice shooting.  Yes, that wind can be difficult as Jimmy and I joke about it all the time.

Nice target Johnny.

Thank You Sir. I can see it will take considerably MORE effort on my part to do better.

The 100 + yard 'range' I shoot at is actually a filbert orchard plus barn etc... and I really only have permission to get a body count of California Ground Squirrel. I need a new place where I can relax and not worry about 'permission' to shoot.

Setup a table and chair and let the gun perform.

If you have access to a public or private semi-local rifle range It makes all the difference in the world.

There's a nice range close but soooo expensive and I hate shooting my BB guns with PB folks. I just have to drive out in the woods towards the coast and hunt down a 100 yard spot that's comfortable.

I pay $400 per year for at a private range ( was $700 first year which included one time initiation fee) that is open 7 days a week, from 8am - 6pm M-S, and 12 noon - 6pm on Sunday.  10 total ranges for both pistol and Center fires.  Well well worth it for me as I use it two or three times some weeks.  Nice benches, stools, covered shooting area, sticks and stands supplied.  Steel and paper targets.  I use the 50/100 Sight-in range for all my needs.

The PB guys love air guns. I can hardly keep them away from talking to me and asking a bunch of questions. I also use it for my .22 RF shooting.

Good luck in finding a good 100 yard spot!
