I am from West Des Moines and absolutely having a blast with my rediscovery of air guns.  I am relatively new to GTA.

Iowa Events-- Ray Dietrich used to be the airgun Guru for the Iowa Sportsmens Federation. I am sure that ISF has a website. You might try that   Good Luck

How about the QC?  I'm on the other side of the river, but I see you're in Eastern Iowa.

I was just on the Iowa State Rifle and Pistol @@@'n web site and they had a contact person for air rifle events here in Iowa his address as shown there is:

                      E-Mail  -  [email protected]

They didn't list any more events for Iowa  but they may well have not updated the site, so   good luck on contacting him.

I'm a couple hours east of Mike (Burt)  between Waverly and Cedar Falls.  I have room for 2-3 tents in my yard plus two empty bedrooms and there is a no cost primitive camp site within a mile.  I have a measured 100 yard single lane range (expandable to @150 yards).  Black Hawk Park (about 7 miles away) has complete camping facilities as well as multiple shooting ranges.  I know the Park Rangers and could probably reserve a range for a fun shoot if there is enough interest.  I'm also only 5 miles west of the Cedar Falls Gun Club (hosts the state trap shoot) and could probably get them interested in hosting a fun shoot.  Open to meeting and shooting with all airgun enthusiasts.

I'm in central Iowa. Maybe in 2013, when the weather warms up, we all could have a Fun Shoot. I can't provide 100 yrds on my property but I know of excellent open long range places to use.  I also don't mind staying at somebody's, as long as I can set up a tent (I have my own 5 gallon portable Luggable Loo toilet, so I wouldn't have to bug anybody in their home in the middle of the night, lol). :)

Sounds fun!

Yeah, the weather is kind of sketchy this time of years as far as planning anything in advance.
I'd be up for it in spring maybe. I have a couple guest beds/rooms.

I'm reserecting this thread in hopes that the Iowa airgun community has grown since 2013. I am moving to Iowa city in a couple weeks. Is there any Field Target?? Or any air gun competition at all?

I see The Izaak Walton league has an airgun range and 100 yard rifle range in Cedar Rapids.  http://www.izaakwalton.info/our-ranges.html (http://www.izaakwalton.info/our-ranges.html) that is awesome and I'll be using that I hope.

I've been looking in Nebraska myself with no luck (I'm in Omaha), so it would take very little effort to get me to drive to Iowa. It's driving me nuts not having anyone around to shoot with.

I'm new to GTA. I've gotten interested in Field Target. I have one 100 yard range and one 70 yard range. On both I shoot lead-free or I shoot lead into something to capture the lead.

I live just south of Cedar Rapids and north of Iowa City.  Send me a private message if you want to get together for some air gun shooting.

Anyone in Northwest Iowa. I'd like to find someone or even a group of people to shoot with. Wouldn't mind forming an air rifle club but I'm really not any good with that type of stuff. If there was one around reasonably close I would get involved.

Central Iowa here, have actually made it to the range at Brushy Creek twice this year before the snow was gone with my nitro springer .22, waiting for a nice sunny calm day to haul three brand new pcp's and a compressor for a proper run down

Maybe now that people are getting vaccinated we could/should organize an Iowa get together for shooting and discussion.

I have three different ranges on five acres near Cedar Rapids; 55, 85 and 100 yds.

I have two Champion bullet traps for shooting lead pellets at paper. I've created a custom paper target for competitive shooting (see image) into my lead trap(s).

For plinking, I only shoot lead-free (GTOs).

I use PBA if I'm hunting, otherwise at the range or my yard and shop I use lead, looking at the range today, I'm surprised the state doesn't start shutting them down, idiots are trashing the place. My nephew has an acreage down by redfield with a nice little range that doubles as his food plot. Good kid, heading for his dream on a fast track.

After the experience I had today at Brushy Creek range, I'm joining Boone Valley Isaac Walton. $50 a year with a very nice bench shoot area set up for competition.

New to airguning........ We live in Des Moines, Iowa and am looking to head up to Big Creek range as soon as I get either one of my PCP's; I have ordered the Airforce Texan .457cal LSS w/CF tank and the Benjiman Bulldog .357cal. Excited to get shooting. I am looking for SCBA tank (American made preference). I have my NSA .457 cal rounds so far lol I have found great Veterans discounts from both PCP companies. Looking forward to meet more shooters in Iowa. I am looking to go to Texas for hog hunting and FL for some invasive species hunting and fishing. Good to see others are shooting airguns in Iowa. Oh, we have Gamo Swarm Gen2 in the .22 cal. A great break barrel.

I have the Swarm Magnum G2 .22 as well. FYI you can legally hunt coyotes and wild hogs in Iowa. I plan on heading to South Dakota for some prairie dog shooting with some friends later this summer on the res, should be a challenge, tuning my Flash .22 to sling 26gr pellets for it

We have gotten squirrel and rabits with our Swarm and I plan on trying to hook up with someone to go coyote hunting once I get my big bore's.

Sure would be nice if we could find a nice, centrally located venue for an afternoon's shooting and some talk!

I'd be happy to drive to Des Moines or Ames for example, if a suitable location could be figured out.

Just sayin' 🙂

I've driven to Kenosha, WI (4 hrs 1 way) for a 4-hr Field Target match a couple of times.

Tough to do in a single day and a long drive for 4 hrs of fun. I'm only 2 hrs from Ames.

Do you know of any movements to legalize deer and turkey hunting with PCP's in Iowa ? I already purchased a tank from a airgun company and they said they sold American, but when I got it; it had a "Made in china" sticker right on it. Talked to the above fella, but he was very high pressure and I couldn't keep him on topic or keep him from talking over me. I gave up. Airguns of Arizona has one. They are over $700; compared to $549 for chinese....... I'm still learning what is the right stuff.

I'd spend some time at the range and get zeroed in at a respectable range, coyotes are getting smarter, I have .22s so they're safe around me unless they get too curious, closest I've gotten so far was around 100 yards just seeing if I could get them in for photos.

With the Airforce Texan .457 LSS w/CF tank can easily reach out to 150 - 200 yards; for a predictor for sure (with practice). The Benjimin Bulldog is very accurate at 100 yards. But, I don't really have any plans of just going coyote hunting. I am getting these for Texas hogs, Florida hogs - Iguanas - tilapia and any other invasives; maybe even Arizona Mule deer, impala's and what ever else is out there. Nephew is looking into Idaho elk hunting too......
