I went back down to the dairy today with the Remington Summit to see if it would work a little better then the Big Cat did yesterday. And I’m happy to report that it did, but in all fairness today offered a lot more opportunities then yesterday did so that in it’s self my account for the higher harvest numbers today. I did have at least three fly offs but as I’ve said many times before, these are some tough birds. I also believe with the lighter pellets and increased velocity of the .177 pellets they are in fact zipping straight through a lot of these birds. Most shots taken today were out to about 40 yards and for the most part the birds the birds were dead as soon as the hit the ground. I did hit one solid and watched as he flew off over my head, when he did I noticed he couldn’t get his feet tucked in. In my experience that’s a dead bird that just doesn’t know it yet. I watched him head across the street in the general direction of the equipment shed. And sure enough, after I collected the birds that did drop within sight I walked over and found him dead in the middle of the dirt driveway leading the shed.
I was also lucky enough to have a pigeon come and offer up a shot. I hit him from about 30 yards and watched him take flight for about 20 yards before piling up. The best shot of the day was on an ECD (Eurasian Collared Dove) that landed on a fence post 45 yards away. He was spooky so I had to quickly line up the shot and send the pellet. At the shot I saw a large puff of feathers and heard loud smack of the pellet strike, and the bird just slumped over on the fence post. I mean that thing didn’t even flap a wing, he was dead before the pellet exited his body.
I got a little carried away with pictures but it was a good evening for me and I still get a little excited after a successful hunt. And on the plus side I see a nice dove breast dinner in the coming days. Enjoy the pics.

Nice shooting and great pics Dave! The Summit definitely proved itself. You had an awesome day.
It is true that a .177 of equal power to a .22, will penetrate deeper than the .22 because of the smaller surface area which equals to less resistance. The .22 will need a couple of FPE more than the .177 to penetrate equally.
