I have spent my entire life hunting ,fishing and enjoying the great outdoors.I even have an uncle from Texas and never heard that expression used. So can someone please help an old fart understand the expression
If pests are a problem better to target them specifically rather than paint with a wide brush. I don't even like poison for rats and mice for the very same reason. There was a news story and lawsuit last year where a building owner had a careless exterminator on site and a child picked up some bait thought it was candy ate it and died from the poison.
The only way to keep a skunk from spraying when shot is to get it in the spine and sever the spinal cord.
Here's my current Skunk that has sprayed each (exceptionally stupid) dog several times. I think I could have reached down and scratched under the chin of this skunk. She's soooooo sweet.Steveoh

Been there and done that with a broadhead, still relaxed and poured the juice on the ground. He was up wind of the camp site in the mornings when the warm air started rising back up the mountain. I heard about it from my Dad every morning for a week. There is no way to be sure the skunk is not going to spray other than to catch him in a plastic bag and dispatch him while he is in it. He could put out a live trap beside the creek with a long string attached. Once he catches the skunk he could drag the trap into the creek. After a day or two he could come get the trap.Simplest thing is just to shoot the skunk over bait down by the creek and bury him on the spot.
