The coons have declared war - big mistake

This morning I woke up around 7-7:30 only to see both bird & squirrel feeders down on the ground for the 2nd time this week. I know it's not the squirrels because they have been sitting on the fense next to both feeders eating for almsot 2 weeks. They couldn't knock them down even if they wanted to. One is wide and open at the top, like a cup, for the birds, and the other is a squirrel (big enough) house which the squirrel goes sits inside and usually eats the sunflower seeds with its head sticking out the front and looking out. It has to be a raccoon that climbed up the chainlink fence and knocked them both down for the 2nd time. Whatever it was had to be pretty strong and heavy. I just need to find ways to secure them down better, maybe with more and stronger/thicker gauge metal wire, but then they could be damaged if not allowed to give a little. The way the feeders were, they could easily support at least 10lbs each of weight or pressure from any angle.
On top of this, my wife left the kitchen garbage bag outside the door of the porch upstairs and forgot to tell me to take it out to the large garbage bins in the driveway. Well that was all shredded to pieces with garbage all over the staircase leading downstairs. Could have been a cat or even a skunk, but with the bird feeders knocked down, I have to think it was the same critter.
And this is what really worked me up. The big log the Ding Donger is screwed/nailed onto, was knocked over and on its side!! So it looks more and more like 2-3 bandits came rolling in and knocked everything down in their path. I have seen 3 of them come in before several times. They run around the yard all excited like teenagers investigating, touching and knocking things over and then take off. One of them picked up the Ding Donger which I had taped around the log but not well enough. He ripped that electric tape right off and was holding the ding donger and smelling it. Eventually he dropped it. That was 2yrs ago and he and his pals all paid dearly for those intrusions and made great pics for the GTA.
So that was 3 crimes that were commited in my backyard last night.
The Ding Donger went off at 12:30am last night and it was the same possum I have seen before. I went back to bed but around 3am the Ding Donger was going off like crazy. I turned it off and went back to sleep. The ding donger is not pointing to the feeders but the cat food bowl on the ground. Critters however would have to get past the Ding Donger to get to through the fence door and inside the fenced area, or even to climb the fence from the outside where the feeders are. It could not have been deer, because the bird/squirrel house is on the inside of the fense and lower. They can only get to the top feeder which they have before and I have observed them do this very gently scooping up the corn kernels with their tongue. So I can rule out deer. It could be a possum too though. I will have to get up in the middle of the night to make sure, and if this occurs one more time, lead will rain down on any night critter that can climb a fence. It is a war they cannot win. I will put all 3 Ding Dongers out there if I have to in all different directions, in order to catch the one doing it. I am well equipped and ready with 22, or 65 to 90 very silent ft-lbs of energy, hehehe

Well Jeff, I was thinking of shooting them with the 14fpe Diana 36 .177 so they can suffer a little, and do a very lengthy death dance
Getting shot with any of the Condors is too quick for the perpetrator(s) that made me pick up all the garbage scattered everywhere. That's how ticked off I am!!

Harry, I'm sure it won't take you long to get the crosshairs on a bandit. I'm looking forward to the post already.

454: That should work. That's all I use. Give it some time, but make sure they don't see or hear you open a window or they 'll take off quickly. Be aware that you may attract a lot skunks in the process.
I think you should expect to see something like the previous times if I catch the bandit that 's coming around causing havoc with my stuff in the backyard.

Nothing wrong with shooting a skunk... Just ask Harry about that.. LMBO! I did hear someplace that the best place to shoot one of those skinkers is lungs/heart shot, as with a head shot they lose all control of their muscles, which leads to them spraying out their green liquid
It does sound like a coon(s).... Nothing one of those Condors can't handle

I did not expect to see a coon last night, because from past experience they almost never come back 2 nights in a row.
However the usual possum and neighborhood skunks came last night. I was thinking of shooting the possum, but decided to let it go because I don't believe he is a suspect. It was very jumpy anyway because I had the big flood light on and it doesn't like it. I shot at the skunk's tails and they took off eventually. One of them sprayed a little but not bad at all. You can only smell it at the spot he was at. It was funny watching them turn around like "who is there?" and raise their tail ready to spray. I want them to associate my backyard with pain, so they do come around often. I think I broke the tail bone on one of the 2, because its tail looked weird after the shot and it took off in a hurry. If they are persistent and keep coming around, I 'll be shooting them in the foot next time, but their lower legs are really hard to spot. I guess they are very short and disappear in the grass. They 'll be limping back to their den next time and won't dare come back hopefully. Once I can eliminate the skunks without killing them, I won't have to wake up as many times for no reason when the Ding Donger goes off, or replensih the cat food in the middle of the night.

Do you have a game camera? That is perfect for finding out their routine. Good luck with getting those bandits!
