I see so many pictures on here of people getting wild hogs. Just curious how are they in a smoker? Or do people butcher them like a regular hog? Sure looks like they are tasty.

A friend's dad killed a hog when I was a teenager, and they smoked some. To this day I haven't had anything half as delicious as that smoked wild hog.

Turn on the power. If you see smoke, you don't need to do any more testing.

we don't eat the ones we kill. our family friend killed one and was skinning it and got brucellosis from it and has been deathly sick numerous times. so if you do get on be careful.

Friends here cook "next to" an open wood fire. The fire is built on flat ground with sheet metal (tin) backing to reflect the heat. The whole pig (gutted, hair removed, skin left on, and the body held open with metal rods) is hung (head down) about two feet away from fire just off the ground. The cook sits away from the heat with a long stick to poke the pig gently to keep it turning. Almost forgot this part: The cook breaks the seal on a quart of whiskey when the cooking is started - when the cook falls over, the pig is done too. This works best with a young pig and an old cook.

Is wild hog really any good? I'm really a pork person, but one of my kids absolutely loves bacon.
Just curious.
