I was glad I finally got this guy! He was cleaning out my corn cob feeders for over a week and was definitely "educated". Every time I slowly inched the back door open to take a shot, he would shoot up the tree in a flash. He always kept his eye on that door while feeding. Not this time..
I took the shot from 10 yards exactly. (my closest feeder) Polymag's run at about 845 fps over my chrony with the .25 Mrod. He was facing me at a 7 o clock position. The polymag traveled straight through the vitals and stopped just under the skin about an inch behind his right shoulder.
Here is a picture for comparison. The recovered pellet measured .355" exactly. Pretty good expansion if you ask me! Not to mention, ALL of the energy was transferred to the vitals. There was no flinch, no twitch, nothing at all. He just hit the deck.

I've had several of them over the years that were hard to get a shot off on them where it took months to finally get them and the feeling is so joyfully sweet when you get them. They always eventually slip up with a moment of complacency where they feel safe enough to hesitate in place for several seconds and it costs them. Our determination and patient persistence in the battle of wills with them usually pays off in the end. Congrats.

Good to see you finally got him. Those quarter bore Polymags are rough on squirrels for sure.

A 10 yard shot, with a 40FPE gun is always a bad day for the nutters.Bet that made quite the "Pop",when it hit.Nice shot!Nice expansion on that pellet too.
