I am thinking of getting an Air Venturi Avenger and have a healthy supply of .22 caliber pellets compared to the .25 so my problem is for small game hunting and small pest control which would you say if the better choice as I am confused or is it just a personal preference ? What do you use and like ?

Under 30 yards and on small stuff .22 is fine. Over 30 yards and larger critters .25. Thats my 2 cents

I myself use .22 exclusively mostly for target shooting and pesting. With the advent of the slug market, a high power .22 using slugs can be (not always) more useful (better wind penetration) than a .25 using pellets. But, a .25 does offer more surface area hence a larger wound channel and more forgiving on shots that are a bit off. With a .22, ammo (pellets and slugs) are less costly especially if you plink/target shoot often like me.

Unless you have an air source other than a hand pump I would strongly recommend .22.
Even if you do have that source I question whether .25 really is any better than .22 at normal airgun ranges (<50 yards) against normal airgun quarry (small game). Longer range, yes. .25 will have a better BC.

I'll relay a little bit of info, for caliber choices,
I found out when I was thinning the Hosp/Starlings/Flying Rats out of a couple of sheds.
I had to go to a 177 cal pellet, as the pass thru's were dinging the roofing sheeting when using the 22 cal,
too much power 850+ fps, for the short range inside stuff.
The rancher said don't worry about the dings, but I was Leary and changed to the 177 Wad cutter pellets,
after a pass thru on the starling there was no damage and the Flying Rats were DRT, same as the starlings.
Just something to think about if doing inside work.
YMMV,
Don

Get whatever you want. You'll be buying another caliber soon.

I've killed squirrels with my one 177 (but only 4), my lower powered 22 (15) and my two 25s (20). There doesn't seem to be much difference PROVIDED I place the shots correctly. But I'm still trying to get a squirrel to cooperate for a body shot with the 177. I hit one through the shoulders but my dog was out and it didn't get a chance to run. I shot the last one in the shoulder but due to the steep upward angle and the way it was positioned the pellet went up the neck and through the skull. I think the 25s may stop them a little quicker on body shots but I'm not really sure. Head shots it doesn't matter although I did place a head shot too far forward with my P35-25 and it crushed the skull and killed the squirrel on the spot anyway. I haven't done that with the other calibers but I'm guessing the 25 might work slightly better there too. But with a well positioned shot and enough penetration all three calibers seem to work well.
If you push even heavier 22 pellets up over 800 fps you will have more than enough penetration and are likely to have many pass throughs. So you have to keep in mind what is in the path of the pellet after it goes through. My main 25 is my P35-25 and it is using 20 grain FTT pellets at about 870 fps. I got pass through on 15 of 18. My P35-22 likes 21 grain Baracuda Match and penetrates further in wet magazines even though they are going slower at about 830 fps. So I expect more pass throughs. But I've been using the 177 and haven't shot the P35-22 at a squirrel yet. Half my 177 shots have been pass throughs.
I'd recommend a 22 even though I really like my 25s. The ammo is typically a little cheaper and if it is accurate with lighter pellets you can use significantly less air. I think 25 fpe would be plenty and should give you reasonably trajectory on a 14-15 grain pellet. My little 18 fpe Prod works fine but I wouldn't want to use it much past 30 yards. Velocity is only 700-750 fps so trajectory isn't as good as my higher velocity guns.
