Hope it breeds and brings you a more target rich population! It seems to be working! I saw this Baby G-Hog in my yard this morning. It actually let me walk right up to it, and the little bugger even got aggressive when I got real close. It would charge at me but then stop, definitely holding it's ground and not backing off. Made me wonder if it could be rabid or just young and foolish!Jim - jhm757
I spotted a blond G-hog on my lawn about 9-10 days ago. He kept coming from and going back to some thick brush at the edge of my lawn 42-43 yards out. I was watching it carefully to see if it was a pregnant one. I usually don't shoot the pregnant ones and would rather let them replenish the numbers as to give me more targets later in the season or the following year G-hogs have gotten a little scarce the last few years after shooting hundreds of them on my property the last 2 decades, so I give the pregnant ones a pass until after their young are out and about. It finally moved in under my toolshed on Saturday and I got a better look at it. It did not appear as it would be contributing to my future pesting efforts, so I decided to target it. I did not get the chance until Tuesday (yesterday) afternoon. I looked out the window and it was at 1 of the 3 burrow entrances at the far end of the tool shed, about 23-24 yards from the upstairs window. It was sticking out half way and it looked like it had gotten lazy and had laid down on its stomach with its head on the ground. I have seen others do that after they have fed and want to sunbathe or just chill out for a few minutes. I took out the Disco .22 and loaded a JSB 18.1gr pellet. I opened the window slowly and put the crosshairs on the top and left half of the skull since I was taking the shot from its left side and because of my elevated position and the angle, I had to shoot the skull off center for the pellet to travel diagonally (and down) through the brain. I squeezed and hit the mark, maybe 1/4" above where I was aiming. Upon impact the G-hog went down, then kicked itself out a little more, went on its side, then on its belly again (after kicking some) and expired. It was a 9.2 pound male (a little heavy for early-mid May) so I was right in my evaluation of no little G-hogs running around First pic is how I found it, and I took a couple of more. Hopefully it won't be long until another one decides to move into my property and the award winning G-hog motel, I mean under the tool shed. In the meantime I hope the withdrawals don't kick in PS. I cut the lawn after that
