Louisiana trip - hunt
« on: May 06, 2021, 11:41:59 AM »
Good morning everyone.
Last week, my Judy and I went to Louisiana for a visit with family and friends we had not seen, in some cases, for several years.  We got back home yesterday, and started cleaning things.
So, why is this in the Hunting Gate?  The Louisiana Spring Squirrel Season opened May 1.  My brother and I had talked about making a hunt when he got back from a Bass Tournament in which he was participating.  So we gave it a try Monday morning.
Several things affected our hunting success:  Last year, there was a hurricane that downed many trees.  The woods had much underbrush that had grown up, making it difficult to move through the woods.  There was a brisk wind blowing too.  I did see a squirrel and got a shot at it - MISSED.  Brother did get one.  Because my Judy and I had some business to attend to Tuesday, that was our only chance to hunt.  But everything considered, it was still great to hunt the old places.
Heads up:  The Tennessee Spring Squirrel Season opens soon.  Be watching for pictures and write-ups soon.

Mike

Good job on getting out hunting and visiting family. Sounds like a successful trip in my book.
I travel for work and carry a fishing rod with me when I head to the lovely FL area and hope to get out and wet a line. I’m successful if I can get my line wet because it’s better to wet a line than wished I brought my fishing great with me and not tried at all.

Hi Randy and thanks for the reply.
You are soooo right about wetting a line.
The trip was definitely successful.  I hope to do a repeat in October or November during the Fall Season.

Randall, it was great to be hunting there.  My brother is taking care of the hunting in Louisiana for me now.  He is a very good squirrel hunter - often limiting out (3) in the Spring Season.

Good morning, Harry.  My plans are to hunt 'Permission #2' this Spring Season.  During the winter, I was able to get a quick look at those woods after the Deer Season ended.  Now I will have it all to myself.  By concentrating on 'Permission #2', the other one can get more rest and recovery.
Thanks for the good wishes.
