Quote from: Bayman on May 06, 2021, 12:15:59 AMBesides Crosman, anyone have a pellet over 9 grains that performs well in their Hw95 / R9?ThanksMy 177 95 does really well with H+N Baracuda Match (10.65gr - 4.51mm) and JSB Exact Heavy (10.34gr - 4.51/4.52mm). These two are quite consistent for my barrel. I recently received an order of 5 tins of the Baracuda Match pellets from overseas but can't get JSB Exact Heavies from anywhere. I have not shot these a lot since I have lots of lighter weight pellets that I've been playing with lately, but every time I get them out, I'm typically getting sub-1/2" groups, group after group (25 yds, 5-shot groups). I am getting ~790 fps with the Baracuda Match. I want to give these a go at 50 yds soon to see how they perform at range. Baracuda Hunter Extreme (9.57gr) do pretty well, but are not quite as consistent. These shoot about the same as JSB Exacts. I have a tin of Baracuda FTs (9.57gr) on order from Pyramyd to try out, but they are held-up by some back-ordered JSBs.Tony
One heavy pellet that I have been disappointed with are the JSB Hades. They fit so loosely in my barrel. When I can get a few that fit tighter, they are very accurate, but then I start grabbing looser fitting ones from the tin and those go all over the place. I wanted these to work well since they seem to be great hunting rounds, but I cannot get consistent grouping under an inch or more. I should sort them by size but I don't have enough motivation to go through that effort. My barrel seems to prefer most heavier pellets that are a bit oversized. Actually, it shoots many pellets quite well.
I don't know if you've tried the H&N Baracuda Hunters 10.3's, but they are fairly accurate for me. I bought a bunch a while ago, when PA had a big sale on the 250ct. tins. I say fairly accurate because I've only shot spinners, tin cans, rimfire targets and potatoes(haha). Never shot groups on paper. But out to 50 yards they are just as good as CPH's, even though they're a hollow point. I wanted to use for pest control with my magnums that shoot S.S. with anything lighter. Family emergencies prevented that last year, but did find they didn't lead the barrel like Crosman lead. As a side note, they do run a bit on the larger side, so if 4.53mm pellets are tight these may be difficult to chamber.
Well now you got me thinking, the Hades was inconsistent in my gun and I did measure them by head size. Very consistent at 4.49mm significantly smaller than the 4.51mm and 4.52mm of the very accurate heavy domes and shooting much faster than the fatter pellets. And those barracuda extreme are so big they won't even fit in the pellet gage (so >4.55mm) and they're the second best pellet in my gun, definitely the most consistent. Are you looking to try anything in particular? I've got some various leftovers that didn't make the cut in my gun.
