IF I knew theses were so tasty , I would have opened  a Mongolian BBQ starling stir-fry  for dinner tonight restaurant, back when I was blasting hundreds of  lbs. of lead shot at them back when they were much more plentiful up here  :-\

Well, I'm sure that not EVERYONE would have the same appreciation I do, but in the world of wild animals that I have tried, these rank up really high.

Actually, that sounds like it would be a very good use for them!

I found this on a quick search...

"One final potential benefit that we in the U.S. seem to have overlooked, is that of European Starlings as a food source.  Starlings have been and continue to be harvested for food in the Netherlands, Spain and France; in France tinned starling pate (pate de sansonnet) is available in many stores, including airport duty free shops."

Miss Lizzie, we call them GALANSIYANG or KALANSIYANG in the Philippines.

Back in the 70s, my oldest brother would shoot them with a rimfire, as they were so many of them raiding our DOLDOL tree.

Our maid, Martha, would cook them adobo style  ;D

I used to hunt them with a blowgun from 2000 to 2007, but I quit hunting birds back in ‘08 and just went for rats.

Adobo is a type of smoky pepper/pepper sauce.  It gets used for slowcook recipes often I think....  popular in various Latin cuisine maybe but very popular in the Philippines too because of the Spanish connections.....that's a quick no google, don't ever trust it.  Should work in a pinch though  ;)  someone who actually knows will give a better answer.

Thanks!
My most commonly used seasonings tend to be fajita mix, various hot peppers, cumin, or a few used in Chinese food.

Nice shooting! Do we get to see them plated up? Never seen a single starling on my place. I guess I'm too rural.

I'm curious Lizzie if you find any small insects or parasites on/in them while dressing them out?

I cut the breast pieces into even smaller bite-size pieces, and set aside.
Took some chopped carrot and celery and stir fried for a couple of minutes with a small amt oil and some fajita seasoning. Then added some chopped onion and bell pepper, continued cooking until onions just starting to caramelize. Removed vegetables from pan. Browned the starlings pieces for a couple of minutes, added some chopped zucchini, stirring and browning just as I did the other veggies until starling was near-done. Then I added everything back into the pot together. Poured some pre-bottled sauce and heated through,...served over rice.

In the years I have been shooting starlings (and eating them), I have yet to see any type of parasite or bug.
