Got tired of gear swapping
« on: May 03, 2021, 04:25:12 AM »
Got really tired of swapping gears on the lathe for different threads.
And hand cranking.  ;)

Impossible just takes a little bit longer to achieve.

Way faster than I can turn threads with my manual machine.

Pretty nice.

Thanks,
And now I can turn conical and radius profiles easy without special radius cutters.
No more contour mapping turbo housings when cnc can turn the part.

Thatís probably the biggest advantage.

I just started playing with lathe cnc. I made a saddle for my mini lathe with x and z. I still control spindle. Iíve still got some learning to do on the program side but initial results are promising.

awesome.. Yes , swapping gears is archaic , and i hate it,  ..( fumbling with little c clips etc )
What controller system is that ??you running closed loop , servos , regular steppers?? it looks like an industrial control system/

Thanks Rob,
This one is steppers for now, I had some on the shelf amd decided to use them. Have servos too but they are way too big.
That is the cheapest offline cnc controller that has all the turning G-codes you would need.
It's Xc609t and cost about 150Ä
Easy to setup and has spindle encoder support as well as Z indexing pulse support for X and Z axis homing.
Has normal Fanuc g code set so about all cam software have good post processors for that.

wow , i wish id known about that a year ago. thats like a swiss army knife , 200 stored programs ,.. might be time to go back to my cnc lathe build.. Fusion post processor already has the fanuc turning as i recall.. I was trying to run mach turn , and the spindle index ( encoder feedback ) never worked  and at that time , the only alternative i knew of was centroid acorn ( $400 plus encoder from them )
