From my experience, I do not expect you will have time to align the transfer port. When I’ve used the 638 bearing compound on close-fitting parts, it locks them up within seconds.
The most recent example I recall was a brass sleeve placed over a 7/16” Crosman barrel. It was a very slight interference fit like Garth is describing and it locked up within a few seconds such that a plastic mallet would not budge it. Even a 0.001” slip fit (no interference) may change the situation considerably, I don’t know.
