I have an older Leupold marked "VARI-X, 3-9X33mm E.F.R. Air Rifle." It's been on a handful of air rifles over the years, but I'm thinking about mounting it on a .22 powder burner someday soon. What makes it an "air rifle" scope? Will it work okay on a .22?
Does the scope have an adjustable objective? Many air rifle scopes do due to the shorter range they shoot. Many rifle scopes are focused for a hundred yards and work well from there out. If your scope has a fixed objective it may be focused at a shorter range, say fifty yards or even twenty five. It will work great on a rimfire.
I bought a Savage Mark II .22 cal powder burner last April and am very seriously thinking about a Air Rifle scope as I want the AO and the magnification of more than 9X for that little gun. It is almost as much fun to shoot as my air rifles are. Finally after 50+ years of shooting I have something capable of shooting dime size or smaller groups at 50+ yards. My Benjamin Prowler with the cheapo scope will do that at 25 yards if I do my part also.

Go for it. A Hawke Vantage in 2x7 or 3x9 is hard to beat on a 22LR. 4-12 if you are bench shooting for tiny groups.
