I've been a big fan of Hawke scopes and their customer support. Currently the only Hawke I have is a brand new 4-12X40 Airmax, and I can tell you the new Airmax scopes are very nice indeed. Nice reticle, nice crystal clear view, etc. my only complaint was MOA turrets on a mil dot reticle. So, after doing some looking I decided to buy an Optisan EVX 10X44 30mm scope.
I'll tell you right up front, I can't really think of a bad thing to say about it, but time will tell, as I only got it today. The glass is crystal clear, impressive for a scope I bought used, never mounted, for $180. I've had Leupolds that were not this clear. About the only thing I can compare it to is the better Bushnells of a few years ago. It is, as I said, impressive. The reticle is perfect. I'm usually not a fan of busy reticles, but this one bridges the gap between simple mil dot reticles and too busy. It is just right, 1/2 mil hash marks and dots that make up the christmas tree encompassing 4 mil down and left/right. It is just the right thickness. Fine enough for precision shooting, but easily seen. I don't know how they did it. It is much easier to see than the Hawlke, but doesn't really look any thicker. I dunno old eyes I guess. I love it.
The turrets are very positive clicks, no musyness at all, easily re-zeroed, and push pull locks. The parallax is easily adjusted from 10yds to infinity. I've heard complaints that the parallax knob wasn't marked between 10 and 100 yards, but mine is, it has 25, 50 etc. so no complaints there. The resistance is just right, you can change parallax without disturbing your sight picture too much. The lighted reticle is great too, it is on-off-on-off all the way around, which is cool. One click give you low light, then off, then the next level of light, then off etc. What a great idea. Eye relief is a bit over 3" and the view is not at all fussy. The Hawke is much worse in this respect, but the Optisan is very forgiving of head position. There is no white out at all, the lenses are well coated and light transmission is also fantastic. The lens covers are cool, metal, and can be position to open anywhere around the scope you like.
I'm just blown away by this scope. I have a Weaver KT 15X from the Classic Weavers, when they made Grand Slams and Classics that came in 6-24, 4-16, and the target version the KT15X. Those scopes are notoriously clear and have the famous Weaver MicroTrac that is the gold standard of repeatability, and the Optisan can match it.
After mounting the scope and leveling it, I shot the first shot on target, used the mil dot reticle to see how much to adjust at 30 yards and put the next seven shots right on top of each other. Then I dialed in 5 mil left, shot shots in one hole, down 5 mil etc, then back around to the original zero, and added 5 shots on top of the original group, that I couldn't tell where they went, they were in the same hole. When I dialed in each corner of the box, they hit EXACTLY on the 5 mil hash mark on all four corners, which I really didn't expect to be so precise.
If I could think of any cons about this scope it would be two minor ones, both involving the turrets. First, they are marked in one tenth mil marks, but they only go 4.8 mils in elevation. So the last 4 to 5 mil is only .8 mil. If you want to go backwards from there, you have to count click or remember the .8 mil. I wish it was an even 4 or 5 mil, oh well. Also, there are no hash marks to know what revolution you're on, so you have to remember how many revolutions you have gone. But, with this level of clarity, precision clicks and mil dots, I can certainly live with those two minor quirks, EASILY.
I really didn't know what to expect from the Optisan EVX line of scopes, and I can't speak to the variables in the line, but I am just blown away with the quality of this scope. You can pay a whole lot more for a good scope, but i swear, I've had $700 Leupold's that didn't impress as much as this EVX. I'd love to compare it to some other scopes like the Hawke Sidewinder, etc. I can't speak to endurance, since I've only fired around 50 rounds from a PCP rifle which, we all know, puts no stress on a scope whatsoever, but I'm hopeful. I read online where a fellow was using this exact scope on a TX200 and I had one, and it was not nice to scopes.

While not having a Fixed X version, do own two of 4-16X variables in the EVX line up. Same feeling as you being VERY nice glass.

I just went outside this evening and it's pretty low light, maybe a half hour before full dark, and it is easy to see thru the scope. I could hit golf tees at 30 yards no sweat with or without the IR on. The IR is also very nice, with plenty of levels of brightness.

Not worth the money IMHO none of the UK based Chinese made scopes are worth the price of admission IMHO their warranty sux try selling it then explaining to the buyer they got no more warranty and the black &^^& that suddenly appear inside Optisan Glass suddenly.i guess with age-? for no reason then your replacement scopes x2 have black stuff inside too.
Rant OVER-!
