Congrats on your new 880 ! They are quite the value for the money for sure. They’re generally very accurate from the box and can become super accurate with a couple of simple mods to the bbl. and trigger.A nice upgrade scope to the one that comes with them is the winchester( made by daisy) 4x adj. objective scope.... $30.00 from Academy sports. The daisy flatnose pellets shoot super accurate in all four of mine!
I love the Winchester 4x32AO scopes, as they seem to be well made so far, and the range adjusts down to 15ft! Then up to 30ft and then the usual yard markings. I installed them on my Crosman 160 Pellgun, 760-D Pumpmaster and Winchester 1977XS so far. The 1977XS being a modded 880. Good air rifle scope insomuch as it can be adjusted down to short range for pesting, backyard work and such. I have a heapin' handful of these high-rise see-through scope mounts put away. I'm wanting to try some high-rise mounts without the sight-through feature to maybe lower it 1/4" or so. I'd like to sell off these high rise ones. I don't really like using them. I have maybe 6-8 pairs of them.
There is no need for high rise ring sets when you use tweezers to load your pellets. Remove the adjusting elevator from the rear sight. Doing these two things allows you to get the scope’s objective close to the barrel. Menards (a big box home improvement store chain near me) has DAP 100% silicone tubes of caulk on sale for $3 thru the end of the month. Every 880, 1977, etc. gets a tube pumped into the buttstock. Improves handling ‘feel’ and balance and the heavier gun shoots a little more accurately. Regarding the trigger- there is a lawyer inspired sheet steel tab added to the trigger/valve/hammer. It is there to prevent pulling the trigger without the bolt being forward, resulting in a blast of air back at your eye. Couple of things- I always wear eye protection when I shoot and I’m an adult and am responsible for my actions. If I forget to put the bolt forward, so be it. Therefore I remove that tab from my guns which lightens the trigger pull tremendously. I also do the ‘credit card shim mod’ (although I use a thinner card material than most credit cards) on my triggers. A couple strokes with a diamond hone helps too. These guns are great values out of the box. A little extra effort makes them great shooters.
In my experiences, just ditching the sight-through feature lowers the high-rise rings a little bit. Just enough to bring the line-of-sight down closer to the bore centerline. A good thing to have. And I sort of roll the pellet into the slot in front of the bolt probe. I'm working on a pellet loader for bolt action air rifles because of this very problem.
Thanks for your replies, Everyone!Lots of good advice. I think I'll just enjoy the gun as is for a little while before I start to tinker with it. I am new at this stuff so I don't want to risk damaging my gun. The weight feels OK to me, actually. @Longbob, there is a video on Youtube titled "Daisy 880: Part Details" that shows the trigger assembly and flat spring very clearly. Sorry but I can't post a link on GTA. This video is age protected, so you will have to sign into YouTube to watch it. Hopefully you have a Google account.
The flat spring lays on top of the trigger assembly and when cocked it protrudes through the top of the reciever. It’s there to prevent the gun from being fired when the bolt is open. Removing it makes for a bit lighter trigger.
Yes, that's it. It's to prevent the valve from opening when the bolt is open. I have not opened up my 880, but I suppose it is adding pressure on the trigger, either directly or via the hammer. Here is another video which might give you more insight: ht tps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3TMPMjsIBDU

These are some great vids. Disassembly and reassembly is a lot less difficult w/ these vids to watch while one is doing it.Now, if I can just keep my cats from 'helping' me while I'm doing it.....
Longbow-You might want to also consider the Williams WGRS 54 sight. It is made for dovetail mounting.
