Are Sardines wild game?
« on: May 24, 2017, 10:58:08 PM »
My Judy was not home for lunch and the refrigerator was empty - no leftovers.  So I went to the pantry and found some sardines.  Hummm, there are some possibilities there.  A while ago I had seen some eggs in the refrigerator.  I’ve got an idea - “Sardine Omelet”.
Step one:  Dump Empty the contents [including the olive oil] into your favorite skillet.  Break the little fish into bite-size pieces.
Step two:  Break the two eggs over the sardines and open up the yokes.
Step three:  Season to taste in the skillet while the eggs are cooking.  The eggs should be cooked until firm.
Serve with your favorite condiments.
This is enough to feed two; but I didn’t want to share with anyone.
Note 1:  If you don’t like the smell/taste of sardines, feel free to skip this one.   ;)
Note 2:  Calorie count - If you are eating this, you are probably not too concerned about calories.  And besides, the sardines are loaded with that Omega stuff that is good for you.  So eat and enjoy.

Just substitute olive oil or any cooking oil for what is lacking in the sardines’ swimming pool.  I suppose you could even use butter/margarine instead too.

Ha Ha, Kris; I have it covered ---> “Serve with your favorite condiments.”  And some folks will probably be putting yellow mustard too.  It’s all good!
Have you tried it yet?

A few times, I use the already flavored sardines and on occasion anchovies go into the mix.

Kris, anchovies in the mix - Really!  I would never have thought of that on my own.  It is now on my “Must Try” list.
And by the way, the only hot sauce I like is Tabasco Hot Sauce ---> https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tabasco_sauce
I have visited the plant that makes the Tabasco Hot Sauce several times.  The company recently opened a little cafe that serves lunch items.  They even have Tabasco Ice Cream.  Honest - I am not joking about the ice cream.

I use the Tabasco Mayonnaise for my smoked mullet dip or egg salad. Tabasco sauce and old bay seasoning in my pickled eggs. There is so much you can do with Tabasco, the possibilities are endless.

Glad to know I'm not alone.  Every morning before work,  I hit the gym for about an hour. After the gym my usual breakfast is about 4 servings of egg beaters and a can of sardines right on top. Doused with a generous portion of hot sauce. My coworkers hates the smell, but I tell them that's why, at 46, I still have the physique of a 20yo......its the breakfast of champions ;)

I've never had mullet roe specifically, but I grew up eating plenty of other types of fish roe, and I love it!

As you can see its large, this the female roe, the male roe is white and just as big. I have seen fist fights break out over this stuff at fish frys. The white is usually baked or smoked.
