Title: Nutter #6 down with Titan GP .22
Post by: 454 Big Block Chevy on July 24, 2010, 09:30:50 PM
Nutter #6 with Titan GP.  this shot went a little low, but i was shooting through a tree. one shot kill however.  i'm impressed with the quietness and power of this little AG.  16.23 fpe at muzzel, shot was 22.5 yds.

my POI moved about 1/2 inch... down... i don't know if my velocity dropped, or my scope is acting funny...   a few clicks up, and its back dead on... my locking nuts on my CP were loose... i'm wondering if shooting it mabey bumped the adjustments.... oh well.  i'm glad it still knocked him down good one shot.

Nice shooting!  Your Titan gave that squirrel a titanic whooping, hehehe :)

Either the mount shifted, the scope, or its internal adjustments from the recoil.  You don't get 16fpe from a factory stock Springer without some healthy recoil.  Did you break it in first with about 500 shots before mounting a scope?

NOPE, i mounted the scope up right after cleaning the barrel out.  it started out as loud as a .22 LR.  but now its quieted down to a gentle PFFT.  very short, quick, and quiet.  you hear the pellet impact a squirrels dental work, harder than the rifle goes off.

i may return this CP4-16 scope, to get a nice new fresh one... get our american dollars worth from china mart...

Why is it so quiet?  Does it have a shrouded barrel?  Have you put it through the Chrony since the POI changed?
In my experience with my Springers.. if nothing has shifted, 1/2" lower POI can very possibly mean lower velocity, which usually translates to an issue with the gun.  This is also accompanied by a lower report (less power, less noise).  That's the worse case scenario, but I would start with another Chrony string to determine if the gun has experienced a velocity change.  Sometimes the POI shifts after a thousand shots because the barrel is dirty, or right after you clean the barrel.

the sound and recoil hasn't changed at all.  the packaging on this rifle stated that it would be up to 70% quieter than a comparible s pring gun.  i have had it chrony'd after it settled down sound wise, and it was pushing a constant 715 average.  about 19 FPS spread.  doing that, i did dry phone book at point blank testing, to "backyard measure" fps/energy.  i went out and sh ot it, and it shot about 25 pages further than my average of 5 test shots.  i have had the Cp 4-16 scope on about 4 different springers, so i may have knocked it off internally... i also put about 30 rounds through my 7mm remington magnum with that scope on it... its quite possible it was toast.  but as i said, the adjustment locking ring was al the way loose on the vertical adjustment, and it was extremely loose, so loose that i have no doubts that the guns recoil could have clicked it.  Like i stated earlier, i still have a few kinks to work out with the rifle, but she's a very sweet shooter.  Crosman is refunding me a new scope and mounts.  I requested a minimum of a 3-9 or i was calling back up and raising a storm.

mine is still very smokey.  every 3rd or 4th shot looks like a black powder gun.  ok not that bad but definatly blow a big puff out of the barrel.  likely why my chrony numbers have a 19FPS spread.  after the first tin, i'l have the numbers run again, and i will see if she's calmed down.
