Title: My Friend had a Busy night with Rats at the Range
Post by: kbstingwing on May 03, 2021, 02:41:01 PM
My Friend that owns our shooting Range I go to finally setup his Rat hunting feed stations and the Ding Donger sensors, he was saying he doubts there will be any action since there has been a lot of Coyotes in the area, he has been putting PB out on the tree limbs and seen that it was eaten, but he thought it was the Coyotes and the Birds eating it, well he put up some back boards painted white and put a red light on his Prod, then while we were talking on the phone the other night around 8 pm he said there ain't no Rats out there, and then "Ding Dong", he grabs his Prod and turns on the light, there was a small Rat at the first feeder out 25 yard, he took sight and shot a .22 CPHP and dropped the Rat with a good Heart lung shot, while we were still on the phone he went out and got it and took a picture of it and next thing you know another "Ding Dong" less than 5 minute later, he grabs the Prod and see's a Fat Rat on the same feeder, he shoot's and nails this one with a Heart lung shot too, he does the same thing and gets it, takes a picture and then "Ding Dong" another Rat on the other Feeder, he plugs that one too, nice big Fat one, well things slow down and we get off the phone, well he heard some Coyotes nearby and he grabbed his San Yang 909 .44 cal just incase, he went to let the dog out to pee and he hears "Ding Dong" again, he went out and seen a rat at the other feeder and while he was aiming the .44 cal, he hears his Dog Barking, well he shot and missed with his Sam Yang 909 .44 and went to see what the dog was barking at, the Dog was having a stand off with a Coyote, he had the .44 cal in his hands but didn't have it loaded, by the time he loaded it, the Coyote seen him and ran off, he said if it was another 2 seconds, he would have had the Coyote, well he got the dog in the house and 30 minutes Later "Ding Dong" another Rat, popped that one, so this went on till 12:30am when he said Quits, with a total of 6 Rats for the night and almost a Coyote,
So the Rats from that night he saved and using them for Coyote Bait.......
here they are

O yeah Kevin! Your friend had a proverbial blast last night with the rats and an almost yote! Tell him great shooting and I hope he nails more rats and yotes!

I'm glad somebody is getting some action. I've tried peanut butter, bird seed and everything else I can think of it. Not one single rat and I've got cameras everywhere.

Hey Kevin, the way you kept saying, "Ding Dong!" put me right there in the scene with him, like in a movie!

I see he quit at 12:30, so I wonder how great (or not) it was to have to be "shooting on cue"?  ;D

He got 2 more last night, sorry no pics, he left them out and the coyotes got them, he's trying to get the Yote to get use to feeding on rat there, then he will blast it with the 909 .44 cal, there's a lot of rat there, we found hundreds of rat nests on the hill behind his house, 2-1/2 acres of rat nests in the brush, I told him to send me Pictures of anything he shoots, he said he's going to go out with his Guilly suit and see if he can snipe one or two.

You need to get out there Kevin. It sounds like he needs some back up.

He's using a Red LED Tactical light on the gun, the Rats don't notice the light at all.

I know I need some Rat action, none here at home...... ;D

Btw, He said Quote: "My Name is Bill and I'm here to KILL"..... end Quote....  :o ;D

coming soon.....  ;D

He shot 4 more rats the other night but he didn't take pictures, they dropped into the poison oak so he left them, Coyotes came and cleaned up the rats, they don't mind the poison oak, they also ate the Peanut butter on the feeders, Bill turned off the ding donger before he went to sleep, so no notice that the Coyotes are there, I told him to leave it on, but he insists on turning it off, he hates having things wake him up.....

It sure sounds like he is having a good time.  But I don't know if I would want to live next to 2 1/2 acres of rat homes.

That's all Valley Center is, 2-1/2 acre plots of Scrub brush and Rat homes, he gets Deer coming through his yard and a Cougar or Two, Lots of Coyotes too, and a bunch of Quail, Rattle Snakes, Horned toad Lizards, Hawks, Buzzards, Weasels, Gophers and Bunnies, it's a Diverse area of Animals, lots to shoot when the seasons come round..... ;)
so not a bad place to live, it's quiet at night you can hear the crickets and the frogs and coyotes, and the Ding Donger going off when a Rat is at the PB, which he did get several more of last night, it's a fun place to be... ;D

Nice story and this ding donger sounds like something I need. The rats I'm trying to get keep evading me. Any info on the motion sensor he's using? Thanks!

it's a Wireless Driveway security sensor and receiver, you can get them on Amazon or Harbor freight, I loaned him my 2 sensor kit because he has 2 feed stations.

one thing, make sure you put a piece of electrical tape over the sensor light, it will blink when tripped and rats get scared of it, covering it up so the rats can't see it works best.

Thanks again. Got it set up with the tape already!
