I tend toward .22 because I prefer the mellower report and get a kick out of lobbing pellets at low velocities when I'm not hunting or keeping score. My .22 HW50S gets shot the most of all my rifles. My .177 R9 sat mostly unused since I got my 50Ss, so I rebarrelled it to .22 and like it much better. I promoted my .177 HW50S to primary squirrel rig as I've discovered it will do the job as well as the .177 R9 did. I usually grab a Diana 24 with iron sights when I'm in the mood for a small springer.
My HW50 -.22 is quite accurate at 50 yds.

My Hw50S is 22 cal. I only shoot H&N Greens with it, either the 9.56 FTT or the 12.65 Baracuda. Both pellets are very accurate. My other 3 rifles are also 22 cal. Lgv Challenger Ultra, Hw77 stainless and A Benjamin Titan.I have owned several 177 cal rifles, the most recent was a Hw30 which I traded for the Hw50S. I found that the 30 even though it broke was not the rifle for me. Not enough power (too slow) and not accurate at distance in the wind. A good plinker up close but sprayed pellets at longer distances. Our property is fairly open in some places and all the 177’s I’ve owned the pellet would miss the mark on windy days as I’m not a good reader of the wind. I haven’t encountered any problems with the so called less flatter trajectories of the 22 cal as I use the mil dots in my scopes, I suppose I’m a better distance reader then wind. As I shoot pests regularly at our place I find that the 22 cal pellets are easier to load.

I've been using holdover with my PBs for years.
Our place is quiet open in some places and the pests that I shoot are usually very aware so the distances can be up to 50 metres. If I’m paper shooting I can get the same accuracy as Lt.Dan at 50 metres with the 12.65 Greens. When I had the Hw30 I couldn’t get close enough for a guaranteed kill. The 9.56 Greens on the other hand are deadly at 30 metres, haven’t tried them at longer distances. I don’t know what the FPS of the 9.56 gr are but a Hard Air Magazine review had the 10.03 FTT greens pumping out at 777.7 FPS. So I’m my circumstance the 9.56 gr Greens shoot very flat in my Hw50S.

Next time you come up try them out. My .22 HW50 shoots the GTO great at about 720fps
Almost ordered a 50 yesterday. I have had the HW30 - for comparison if they are un-tuned, how much more spring buzz and cocking difference is there between the two?I may order that 50 yet in .22 cal. - I shoot mostly greens too. Not too stray off topic - just the combo of HW50 in .22 and green's is exactly what I had in mind.
Maybe it's the pellets I'm using. My 177 Hw30s are shooting 700 fps with 7.33 Exact RS and my 22 Hw50 shoots between 600 and 650 fps. I find the 50 to 100 fps faster Hw30 much easier to judge holdover. Hence my desire to swap my 22 Hw50 to 177. It's why I asked Windmill how the alloys worked at a distance
Marc, there's a hefty jump in cocking effort when you move from the HW30 up to the HW50. In fact the HW50 gets a lot of negative comments on the cocking effort. Personally, I don't think it's too bad when you use the right technique, namely, breaking the barrel, sharply, and pulling the barrel down fast to get some momentum going. It's no sweet cocking HW30, though.
