My brother has an R9 .177. A truly beautiful rifle but the zing, buzz and rattle are the worst that I have experienced, just miserable to shoot. My Dianas just don’t do this. I have not pulled it apart but I assume that the spring must set very closely to the piston. I am looking for a cheap and easy no money fix. I thought of the pop bottle shimmed to fill the spring-piston gap trick. What say you, any chance that this single modification alone will provide meaningful relief? Yes, I know of tight guides etc. but the time to work on it will be very short and after he shot my Dianas, he is so disillusioned with Welhrauch that instead of throwing money at it, he is considering abandoning it all together. Thanks, Mike
PS, Kirk, as proven many times over the years, my D52 is hands down much more accurate than his R9!!!!
That gun looks bigger than you! Most airguns are longer than PB's are. That is why cases are so hard to find. What LOP do you like?
I could understand this coming from someone talking about the R7/HW30, but the R9?? How big exactly does a gun have to be/weight in your world to be considered an "adult" sized air rifle?? 9 pounds? 10, 11?? 46 inches long?? 47, 48 maybe?? because, although it appears you don't believe it, the rifle was and is made for a full sized adult.I'm really not trying to be snarky here, just trying to understand why you feel the R9 is, at least the way you describe things, totally undersized for an adult. Also ask because I've seen any number of people on 2 forums now try to help you with ideas to "stretch" that rifle and appears you've ignored all because you already made up your mind the first week you just want it gone.
Thank you for the replies. My brother is the original owner and the rifle is at least 15 maybe 20 years old. I love air rifles and I inquired about it in hopes of reigniting his interest in it. Some time ago he fell hard for a .25 Marauder and I think that’s part of it. I will call him and see if I can talk him into shiming it up.Thanks again, MikePS, Kirk, as proven many times over the years, my D52 is hands down much more accurate than his R9!!!!

So what I don't like it? Don't take it as a personal affront. I'm sure HW/Beeman doesn't know you well enough to care, why should you?I've used some of the tips, mind your ignorant self, including extending the stock.46" sounds about right.
I assume the R9 and HW95 have the same length of pull. My 95 feels short too, but that's been a problem with most guns I've owned. I have stock spacers, just haven't got them in yet. I think another half inch on LOP should do the trick. Besides that the proportions are fine. I'm only 5'10 and thin, but I have really long arms.

Once tuned, it will leave those stinkin Diana's in the dust .
Hw95 has a 14.25" maybe more, it's at least that. It's been a while since I measured mine. Doesn't mean it doesn't feel small. But most centerfire rifles are under 14". So it's well over the industry standard for an adult full sized rifle. I guess it depends on each person
I have a love-hate relationship with all of the Beeman/Weihrauch air rifles. I hate that I had to work on them right out of the box.
And for that hour worth of banter? I highly doubt you would have told me I was ignorant for trying to help

How good of a gun (like every HW) is it if it needs tuning? Can one perhaps spend a bit more or choose wiser and get one that doesn't need tuned?
Careful lizzie, you'll be fried by the fan-boys. I agree with the thought. I won't be buying an HW again. And still my Diana 34 is a smoother shooter than my "tuned" R9.

Can one perhaps spend a bit more or choose wiser and get one that doesn't need tuned?I have had similar thoughts, and have said more than once that it's the reason I buy old. I have a personal hang-up about having to send off a brand new gun to have it "fixed" to the specs and qualities that it should have come off the assembly line with. I am apparently in the minority on that thought, and it's not that I think HW is not GOOD....it just is not initially built with the best performance it can have.
