Does anyone have any information on the maximum effective range of a Weihrauch 97K in .25 cal. Looking to buy one to use primarily for hunting.
The HW97 is very accurate, don't discount the smaller calibers. Even 13-14-ish fpe with proper range and placement is very capable. I do like to have more power than less and often I am lured to magnums but have found that less power with better placement tends to work beyond my expectations. The 97 with a proper hold/rest can put the lead exactly whare you want, with hard domed pellets could be very effective. The .177 is very flat shooting in this platform but unsure if it's enough with range. Not knowing how much fpe required for woodchucks and ranges that shots are taken makes it more difficult to give recommendations. The HW80 seems to be the "Heavy hitter" of the HW springer line, possibly better suited for your intended targets. Hopefully others can give advice for your particular needs.
Ron? Nothing personal, but unless that private chat is all about powder burners which we know isn't allowed here, your info could/would be very handy posted right here for everyone who might be looking for a good air rifle for the same reasons Zack is
