I just got a HW77K-shoots and looks greatPoints almost as well-normal 1950's boy scout hold-not artillery as Diana 460Except the sight line is too LOW!It is/was tough to get my 70 year old head and neck(college wrestler beat up neck) in position to line up the sights-I think "drop to comb" is the term-well it has too little for my neckI think it means drop from sightline to where cheek meets comb(comb is the funny bulge that stocks have to accomodate scopes-allowing you to get your eye in line while still having a cheek weld)I crudely glued-epoxy-on a Tritium fromt sight-from some pistol project-on top of the sightWorks great-looks "ok"The add-on sight is about 8mm tallIf anyone knows where I could buy a stock with more drop let me know -this works fine, but...
The HW 77 was designed for open sights. The HW 97 was designed for a scope mount. I hope you knew that going in?Now, think about where you cheek meets the stock. Raise the rifle to you shoulder with your eyes closed. Have somebody measure from that place on your cheek to your eye socket.Take a rasp an slowly work whittling away on the stock until your eye can line up properly with the rear sight. Refinish stock with lots of sandpaper and sealer. Instructions are on GTA.HTH?-YogiPS Is your eyesight good enough to use open sights?
What about an adjustable buttplate, would that work? I've never seen one in person, only pictures, but I think it would raise the gun up yet still keep the right feel in your shoulder.

I thought the gun was too low for him causing him to bend his head down too much. Wouldn't the adjustable plate, if slid down therefore raising the gun, allow him to hold his head in a more comfortable upright position?
Ok, I think I get it now. It's not so much an up-down, high low thing as a side to side thing? In other words if you had a stock without a thick/raised cheek pad your head- eye would line up with the sights better.Humm, yeah, it sounds like you need to take some off the stock as others have said, or a custom stock. An idea- if you don't plan on ever selling the gun you could start taking down the cheek piece via grinding, sanding, etc. Just the cheek piece only. If you don't want to fool with refinishing, then, you could get one of those leather pieces that only go over the cheek piece to cover it up and still have a nice looking gun. I've never had one, only seen pictures. I guess they glue on.
