Each of us has our own use model; and that is OK. When it becomes silly is when someone owning a late model Ferrari drives like a grannie to save money on fuel. Or buys the cheapest low octane fuel. That would be like putting junk pellets through a $4000 Olympic target rifle.
Since there are loads of different pellets available within each weight class, there is little reason to opt for mainspring-adverse pellets for accuracy, lethality or any other reasons. It's funny how top notch tuners like Maccari and CDT, who made their money repairing other folks' airguns and / or selling replacement mainsprings etc., were the very people who would admonish people from using pellets outside the most mainspring-friendly weight ranges.
People here always say that mainsprings are so cheap that you should shoot whatever pellets that make you happy. I don't agree. Quality mainsprings (Titan, Maccari) cost me between 30 and 40 euros, or 36 - 48 USD a piece. Add to this the time and pellet costs of breaking in every new mainspring, and it's certainly not nothing to break a mainspring. Therefore, I want to do everything I can to make sure my mainsprings last as long as possible, save from not shooting.
