Williams WGRS 54 Peep sights on Weihrauchs
« on: May 15, 2021, 01:35:01 PM »
Anyone mount a Williams WGRS 54 peep sight to a Weihrauch? I'm considering one because it's a simple clean design and think I can mount it all the way back without blocking the safety button. I know they are a file fit for the dovetail but don't know if they have a screw that binds down to prevent sliding.

Also any problems with front sight heights?
Thanks in advance
Ron

I have the WGRS-54 sight on my R7 & R9.
I had to use a 4mm riser with them to make them work with the front sight.
I do not how to insert my old post in here but if you look at my post 56 & 57 you will see what I had to do.
Hope this helps and hope you can insert my old post for others to see.
I have now moved the risers forward so they are even with the back of the receiver tube at the safety.
I will look to see if I have pictures of them now.

I had to mount mine just before the safety button.

Here is a picture of the WGRS 54 on my R7 moved forward so that it even with the tube. I think it looks better and works fine.
This riser slides right over the top of the safety, can be moved back closer to my eye if I want.

Big thanks for the pictures and information. Where did you get the 4mm riser from?

Sure. Been using them on a couple guns for years.

They fit the dovetail well. Just slides on and secures with one tiny setscrew. It's never tried to move on my guns. The screw is cup faced, and WILL leave a mark if you don't flatten the screw face contact point. You can also place an aluminum filler puck into the recoil pin holes, and mount the sight there and let it dig into that instead.

If you use it with a HW globe front, and there is ANY barrel droop, or you want to sight in waaaayy out there, it won't have enough adjustment. Too low. I know you are "in the know" on how to fix droop  ;) They are still just tall enough. But work well on my HW50S sighted in at 15-20 yards.

On the 77K with a thinned down factory front blade, it's great.

Plus they are much cheaper and MUCH more burly than the typical Williams airgun sights.

I bought the risers from Oberle-Enterprises llc I don't know how to do the link thing but just google them.

They are TEC-HRO 4mm risers choose option Anschutz system 19.

You can email them if you have questions, they were coos to work with.
Hope this helps.

Very interesting thread! You guys have worked out some very elegant solutions.

Williams makes a zillion versions of the uniquely tough and compact WGRS sight for different firearms. Makes ya wonder why they don't do one with the adjustable "AG" mount, for grooved receivers...?

Wood, steel, and leather...all you need for a proper airgun!

So I am thinking that someone with 3D printing skills could make a 4mm riser that would work with WGRS 54 sight and 11mm dove tail on air guns.
The WGRS 54 is a very nice little sight and it
would be great to have a riser that worked without having to file or machine it to fit.
So is there anyone out there that can make them?

I have a Williams peep on my Mendoza RM2800 break barrel repeater. The 11mm groves are short on those old Mendozas. It's mounted at the front end of the grooves. See-thru scope rings are behind it with a CP 3-9X32 mildot lum scope. The rings are both in front of the adjustment turrets so I have a rubber slip over recoil pad on the rifle for good eye relief. Looking under the scope I can use the peep okay. It doesn't have the screw in inset. With the scope the gun groups pretty good. With the peep okay but not great. That model Mendoza came with a Williams like rear peep sight but it's a little taller. The Mendoza is mounted the same way under the scope on a WF600P (B3 clone).

Good information Chase thank you very much for your contribution. I've already adjusted my barrels for scopes which puts the regular Williams FP-AG peep sights at their lower limits at ten yards. I'm gonna buy a WGRS sight to tinker with. We'll see how this turns out. Fingers crossed

His is a great thread. My HW80 had the WGRS on it but I did run out of elevation adjustment. Itís now wearing a scope but now with this solution itís going back to open sights. Thanks

Very interesting!  If I didn't already have Williams FP-AG peep sights on a 30 & 50S as well as my R9, I'd try this out.  The best that I can tell, the riser and sight cost about as much as, or more than, the peep sights I have?

You are correct about the cost of the WGRS 54 sight and riser and the FP-AG is easy to mount and works with the front sight.

I just like the looks of the WGRS 54 better, It is small and compact, and I had them so I went to quite a bit of trouble to make them work.

I wonder if these would fit? https://www.nordicmarksman.com/Riser-Block-4mm.html

Thatís about the only one I can find in Canada. All others are 10mm or higher.

It appears that those risers are held in place by using the dovetail clamping forces provided by the sight. Not sure if this would be a good fit for the WGRS as it doesn't actually clamp the sides of the dovetail. Perhaps if left the open slot over hang the receiver, had a tight enough file fit and started the sight off the back of the gun, you might be able to knock it on tight enough. There's alot of ifs and maybes here.  ???
