The last time I looked into import duties there were none for merchandise under $800.
As cableaddict said, The seller might be unable to ship to the US. I found myself in need of a spacer that goes between the barrel and shroud on an AAS410. The suppliers cannot ship the part to the US because it has to do with sound suppression. So contact the retailer first and check legality.

They claim to ship scopes to the US all the time, yet have no idea what the import duty might be. (And from what I've read, it could be as much as 20%, with other fees on top of THAT.) Or the scope could be quarantined. Or seized. And they can't tell me.Maybe they know and don't WANT to tell me, which would be even worse.

egd I saw that post, but last time I looked, Optics Planet was based in Illinois and something did not seem right. Itar could be a problem as could trademark issues. If the vendor is Optics Planet and they can't tell you, I would carefully walk away from this deal and look at other scopes that are available in the US. While I have done some international purchasing, I now shy away from things that may come under Itar. Again, if the vendor doesn't know, be wary.
Only US Customs [or possibly a customs broker] would give you a dollar amount for the duties, if any. Depending on what you are purchasing and country of origin, individuals are given an 'purchase allowance' for duties, someone mentioned $800 before duties would be collected. Unless you are buying an expensive scope, the duty would probably be waived or fairly insignificant - much like another sales tax added on.
The 600 lb. gorilla is ITAR and [basically] can the scope be shipped out of England and can it be imported into the US without excessive paperwork. A quick google for ITAR should get you thoroughly confused. On this your vendor should be aware. A second pitfall is trademark registration, some companies are strict about their trademarks and frown on privately importing into the US
