Submission for Match 8
Shooting Date: 11/20/20
Shooter:Jimmy Fussell
Distance: 100 yards from back porch
Gun: FX Boss
Optics: Sightron SIII 10-50x60 on 30 power zeroed at 100yds
Ammo: JSB 30 cal 44.75 grain
Wind: none
50/50; 4x , 0.64" CTC
Position: Bench Rest standing; Rear Bag and Atlas clone Bipod

I actually started shooting earlier in the day and groups looked terrible in 3 to 4 mph winds. I gotta face it, I just not so good at shooting in the wind? But, I left everything set up and would come out on the back porch from time to time and try my luck. The winds died almost completely as it got dark.
At 5:30 pm with a flash light on targets I came within a gnats arse of hitting my first 5x????? That's the one I'm submitting. And at 6:00 pm I did it again and the group was actually 0.03" smaller! So the moral of the story is "a blind hog can find an acorn twice if he looks hard enough"!!!!

First two pics are for submission. Second two pics are whoops I did it again! Both groups so close to the golden 5X , but no cigar?

Carl, I can only do that on a dead calm day. I guess it was more like shooting indoors than outdoors?

If I went to an actual gun range with the guys that shoot EBR in those winds, I would probably come in at the rear of the pack.

Jimmy, soooooo close!   This is your best yet and congrats!

ďSanta, will you bring me an FX Boss .30 cal for Christmas?Ē

I think Iím going to ask Marty to move you back to 125 yards for 2021 matches.  Sort of like Golf handicaps so the rest of us can have a chance.

Seriously great shooting.

P.s., I bombed my first official/unofficial 9.5 Lockdown virtual competition.  Posted results and narrative on AGN.  Disappointing, but I had a blast anyway.

Tom, my hat is off to you for shooting the 9.5 Lockdown. Wow, you are really getting into the target shooting.
Most of my shooting is done in calm or dead calm winds. You guys that read the wind and shoot are my heroes. Especially when you can do it with .22 cal.

Now if I could just motivate myself to get out there tonight and try it with the .25 cal FX500?

Yeah you can.  Have a cold beer and enjoy the .25 FX500.  If you miss a shot, take a sip. If you get an X, take a sip. If you really mess up, chug the rest of the beer.  Just teasiní ya.  Itís going to be a good weather day and Iím guessing the wind will again settle around dusk for you as it did yesterday.

I can Ďpartiallyí read some light winds, but usually itís after missing a couple of wind calls.  Iíve got a loooooong way to go. When I got to the range it was 29 degrees and chilly, with little to no wind.  My big mistake was believing a 1-2 mph or less wind would NOT affect my shooting.  I left my two home made flags in the truck. Dumb!   Iím also uncertain if the colder temperatures adversely affect the accuracy.  Who knows?

Also, Iím slowly learning that not having the correct and the same hold pressure for each shot is a no no.  Consistent hold for each shot is hard, and shot to shot rifle hold consistency rules the day.

These guys and ladies that shoot competition EBR regularly can teach us a lot.  I have learned that if I reread the EBR 75 and 100 yard; and the 9.5 Lockdown threads on AGN, there is a lot of tips and suggestions to improve technique.

Mike also mentioned to me that itís much harder to shoot one bull at a time vs. shooting 5 in the same target.  Like they do in EBR with those 44X37Ē large official targets with 25 bulls.   I agree as I do much better on the 8X11Ē printed targets.

Anyway, good luck if you get a chance to shoot the FX500.

I figured I'd post this for Tom if no one else is interested and also Marty, if you want to make my poor score with my FX500 .25 cal a submission I'm game for that.

I should have listened to Tom and cracked a beer. Was doing so poorly I didn't want to waste the paper, so used my old Boss targets and just marked me a new point of aim to shoot at. Used my clear 2.5 moa ruler to score them after the fact. I think you can tell I didn't cheat? LOL

Best score of the day was a 49/50 1x with a whopping 1.80" ctc so submit that if it's ok with everyone? LOL
Best group of the day was a 0.93" ctc but only scored a 47/50

Here's 4 targets with first one for possible submission? LOL

Hey Jimmy

The rules do allow for one submission for each caliber, so you should be good to go.  One for the .30 Boss and one for the FX 500 .25

I think I/we can sometimes loose sight of how difficult it is to consistently shoot 50/50 NUAH targets.  A lot of 47, 48, 49/50 practice targets before I can muster up a 50/50 card with my .22 RAW or RW.

Said a bit differently, ď I would not want to be an inquisitive squirrel trying to eat an acorn/nut in Jimmyís back yard!Ē

Yes Tom, I was aware of the submission for each caliber, but my target wasn't within the guidelines because I reused an old target and scored it after the fact with the MOA ruler. It was and embarrassing score to say the least and thought it would look cool to have one of the higher scores in the match along with the lowest score in the match? LOL

The squirrels got it made around here. I feed them just like I do the deer and the rest of the critters that wonder into the yard.

Hmmm, according to my MOA ruler, my printed targets are just a hair smaller when superimposed against the ruler?

Jimmy, your targets may be printed undersize.... but more likely you are seeing the difference between the 1" "X" ring we use for NUAH, and an actual MOA, with is 1.047".... For simplicity, we use 1" as 1 MOA for NUAH.... It's in the rules.... The 8 ring should measure 4.000" if printed at 100%....

Bob, yes the 8 ring measures 4 inches with my stick ruler, and the x"ring looks remarkably close in size to the MOA 1" ring on the moa ruler. But the 9" ring looks considerably smaller than the 2" ring on the moa ruler??

Oh, I'm not complaining or trying to cut hairs, just something I noticed this morning playing around with things? Thanks for the info on the 1.047" moa? Dummy me wasn't even aware of that? I learn something new every day on here. But now I'm just too dang old to remember it? LOL

Maybe the 2 moa ring on the ruler measures 2.094 and that's where I see the difference? I bet that's what it is? Thanks for the insight!

Peace and moa ruler grease!!!!!

Got into the range to do some shooting few weeks ago. Still had the time to submit this months paper :D

I had a pretty good day for shooting. Only small steady wind but it seemed that the pellets wouldn't want to fly straight as I had used to. There was always something small to mess up my groups  :-\

Name: Montana Airgunner Ari
Airgun: Hatsan Flash QE .22
Scope: Hawk Vantage 3-12x44
Pellet/Bullet: FX Pellet 18.1gr
Position: Sitting benchrest, UTG Bipod and gunrest on the back
Score and Group Size: 1.9CTC

A side note! I also participated in the EBR9.5 competition and did a pretty okay 324 overall points on the competition. I was very pleased how my 400 dollar setup did against everyone else in the competition. I think that I will participate more into these types of events in the future. I had a blast and it was very nice experience even during the COVID-19 time.

Great job Ari, looks like a 47/50 on the score.
To me, the awesome part is you did it with a 12 power scope! You kicked air buddy!

Match #8 is closed signaling the last match for 2020. The final results are listed in the first post.

This has been one of the best matches yet, score and participation wise. Excellent shooting everyone and I hope everyone comes back next year to do it again. Thanks to all for your participation.

Note... In he future only unaltered GTA targets designed for this match will be accepted as an entry.

Yes, Jimmy, and 4 MOA is actually 4.188", but for NUAH we use 4.000".... That is a difference of 3/16", so if you can shoot 1 MOA on a NUAH target you are actually doing better than that.... We were after simplicity and consistency when we made that decision in the beginning of NUAH.... Likewise, scoring the lower value when you touch the line for the Match scores was to even out the difference between calibers as much as possible.... We aren't alone in that, the "Unlimited" class in .22LR 50 yd. benchrest also score the lower value.... If you touch the 1/4" diam. 10 ring, you score a 9, and the target is so small that means every 10 is an X....  :o
