Hey Mark,Going camping next week and taking my HW30 .177, HW50 .22 and HW80 in .20.I'll do nothing but target shoot from 30 to 75 yards. If I hadn't swapped out the barrels, I'd probably prefer to have the HW50 in .20 cal. and HW80 in .22.Come to think of it, I don't think I have the HW50 barrel in .20 .IIRC, the HW50 is a tad unruly in .22 cal. as I added more pre-load to a JM spring to increase power from my previous .177 set-up. The HW80 is a little overpowered in .20 cal. too (originally a .22). I was shooting .22 (H&N) in the HW80 at about 815 before I clipped a few coils off the JM spring when going down to .20. I could still likely clip another coil for .20 cal., then it might be perfect. These are examples of how much time U can spend tinkering to get the right shot cycle with a change in the guns caliber. Right now, since I haven't shot in a few months, I'm not to anxious to start swapping barrels again and getting grimed up ......... For folks that have a lot of time on their hands this trial and error tinkering can be very fun and informative.
This post is a item Kirk had posted about back in 2018 :There is now a HW50S .22 Hunter on Gunbroker for sale.I have a very high powered circa 1986 R1 .20 Carbine - Can I easily swap barrels ?Have a .22 R1 and .20 HW50 ?Old Post by Kirk back in 2018 :Quote from: SpiralGroove on August 04, 2018, 10:36:17 PMHey Mark,Going camping next week and taking my HW30 .177, HW50 .22 and HW80 in .20.I'll do nothing but target shoot from 30 to 75 yards. Thanks for the replies, saved me from thinking of the possibilities.Oh well, boy I thought WOW this would good. Thanks again, Robert
not gonna happen! the block is definitely different, putting a R9 barrel on my HW50 changed the pivot point and stroke geometry, the 2 piece cocking arm of the 50 made it possible with removal of some wood in the stock to make the R9 block work in the 50, the block is taller on the R9/80 or R1 block, I think you will run into up sweep issues and not enough length to close the breech fully, but if you can it may have a ton of droop? Gman I'm waiting on the info? I am definitely interested in a barrel or rifle in the .20cal 50.
