Back to Hunting.
« on: November 30, 2019, 12:33:14 AM »
This Summer/Fall where brutal, extremely hot with slack winds not the best conditions to trot into the jungle  ;D ;D ;D

Last couple days the trades freshened up a bit so I took advantage and spent some time hunting

Starting from the upper ridges

then dropping under the canapy

Always nice to find Hogs activity

today I was carrying my REX .357 what a great lightweight, compact hunter this gun is

Didn't find any pigs, but it sure feels great to be hunting again  ;D ;D ;D

The heat on Maui and every else has been brutal this year.  90 degrees on Thanksgiving. Seems the pigs have retreated up into the valleys where it is cooler as there have been very few sitings on my families farm.

You are.... Hi Steppin  &  Backcountry Stylin  !        They look Great !  ;)

You wont believe what happened, but I tell you anyway  ;D ;D ;D ;D

So, after still hunting for a couple hours I happened upon a great spot, some big boulders a bit up a slope overlooking a well beaten up jungle floor.

Perfect,...I'll post here for a couple hours before hunting my way back  ;D ;D

no w I have to decide where exactly to settle in,

I leave my REX leaning against the big Boulder and go check the right side, there I find the perfect spot to sit, looking up the valley with the wind in my face and with a smaller boulder to my left for cover towards the jungle floor.

Perfect, this is it,.....not sitting there 10 second when I spot a very nice black boar coming straight at me down the valley,...."no way !!! "

I'm pinned, all I can do is sit still and watch.

he keeps coming straight at me, and keeps coming,

at 5 yards he makes a 90 degree left turn up the slope, 3, 4 steps and he stop, dead broadside 5 yards from me,

stays there several second then makes a 180 and he's back down the jungle floor and keeps going passing as close as 3 yards on his way past me, passes to my left and when he's behind the boulder I try slowly to get to my REX,.....but by the time I get close to it the boars crosses my wind,

A snort, a grunt and he's gone like the wind  ;D ;D ;D

" That, didn't just happen !!!!!" I repeat in my mind.

I sit there for the next 3 hours,...nothing

I hunt back, nothing.

Ho well,...that's hunting  ;D ;D ;D ;D

Well, Piggy figured you out, but now piggy thinks you're not dangerous.  "Oh, just a human..."    Next time piggy is going to be a little more relaxed.

Still sounds like a great day to me :)

Lol...you coulda poled him with a stick!

I went the last two days, but got skunked. I think there's gonna be some piglets though...I heard what sounded like a sow giving birth. Looks like I might get a chance at some piglets later.

I did get grunted/snorted at though. Almost pooped myself because it sounded like it was about ten yards away in heavy brush.  :o I don't like not being able to see where there at when they're a little ornery.  :o

I had similar experience this last deer gun season, I was just getting settled into my blind, then decided to put out some doe scent, I applied the scent to a tree about 10 yards from my blind, as I was returning to my blind, A BIG buck meets me as I am about 5 yards from my blind, and my weapon, I'm like WOW this scent really works too good. We had a nice what seemed like 5 minute stare down before he snorted and went off in the direction of the big doe I stirred up on my arivial.  ::)

I've come across hunters that seem to think deer are not as dangerous as hogs.

A coworker's hunting partner nearly got gored by one.  :o
